If you wear silicone swim cap, the hair doesn't get that much chlorine, does it?

I am back in the pool after being out for 20 years (time went by very fast!). I'm just feeling my way through some trial and error.
The bottom line is everyone's hair is different. Mine is red and used to have quite the chlorine sheen to my hair (and I swum without a cap as my hair was short in those days).
I am still experimenting but here is my current hair routine. My hair is long and wavy.
In the evening: Wash hair with conditioner only. Don't rinse out completely. Add Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave in Conditioner
AM: I head to the pool and put on my cap. I do tend to get a lot of water under my head because I need to order a cap for long hair. So it comes off a lot. Anyway, my leave in conditioner is already in so I am protected there.
After workout: I use Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three (removes chlorine) and condition and put more leave in conditioner.
This seems to be working fine. I'm really battling the dryness factor though.
Might give the Pert and Infusium routine a shot.
