Taping feet

I recently injured my foot doing something really stupid. It seems to have the least amount of pain if I can keep the arch taped up. Good old athletic tape doesn't have what it takes to survive in the swimming pool. Does anyone have any ideas of another kind of tape that I could use? I thought about duct tape, but I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to get the sticky residue off of my foot.
  • I had to tape my wrist for months in order to swim. I used waterproof tape that I bought at drug stores. It worked really well. I hope your foot gets better.
  • Yes - J & J makes a waterproof tape that comes in white and blue plastic cylinders @ 1/2" and 1" sizes; available in any drugstore. It definitely stays on in the water - I have used if for years - and peels off afterwards with no residue!
  • The kinesiology tape made famous at the Olympics is very waterproof.I'm not sure where to buy it,I get it from my Chiropractor.
  • You have to tell us what the "something really stupid" was. Depending on the triggering mechanism, you might want something that leaves really sticky residue, or perhaps even permanent residue, as a cautionary reminder to avoid doing this "something really stupid" again in the future. On the other hand, it is quite possible that you are being too hard on yourself, and this "something really stupid" you have done was not really all that stupid at all, in fact, it might have been completely intelligent. In that case, you might want to cover your (wound? scab? abrasion? buboe? lesion? burn? skin-piercing bone fragment? or whatever) with some kind of tape specially designed to be written upon by well-wishers wielding Sharpies and eager to scribble soothing platitudes on your foot. So. What exactly did you do?

i am in the h20 approx 20+ hours per week - my kinesiology tape (applied by my chiro) lasted a good 5 days! I am sold on the stuff! Just don't try to take it off before it's "ready". . .

You have to tell us what the "something really stupid" was. I didn't listen when my heel told me to stop running, and tried to finish the last 3 miles of a run. I was about 50 feet from my car when there was a pop in the side of my foot. :notworking: Depending on the triggering mechanism, you might want something that leaves really sticky residue, or perhaps even permanent residue, as a cautionary reminder to avoid doing this "something really stupid" again in the future. I'm thinking I deserve to have STUPID tattooed on my forehead for this one. For the first week I wasn't allowed to do anything for exercise. I can now do the elliptical without any pain and swimming if I am careful pushing off the wall. I'm going to get really good at very slow and careful turns. Thanks for all the advice on the tape.
  • if you still want to use Duck/Duct tape, get some pre-wrap and pre wrap your foot. You may need a hacksaw to get the tape job off, but at least you know it will be solid.
