So, now that we are on the countdown to May 09 - who is coming and what do you plan to swim?
This will be my first US Master's National meet, and it happens to be happening in my back yard (at least very close to where I grew up and swam USA club). Over is San Luis Obispo now, but it's a short hop, skip, and jump over the foothills to Clovis!
I'm not feeling the love from all the East coasters on Clovis. What a matter, don't feel like polluted sky's and hot weather (kinda like Beijing ya know!). Actually, the Valley can be very nice early May with all the blossoms out and first fruits starting to come off.
Other than the fact that it's a pain to get to from the East Coast, I think the lack of love may have to do with the fact that all the big meets have been out west (or in Texas, which is still a four-hour, ~$300 flight at best) since Nationals in 2006. I understand it is a bids thing, but even for those of us who don't mind travelling it can get a little fatiguing. I'm sure all the Californians will fill it out though.
I have wondered why Ga Tech or UGA haven't put in a bid to host nationals. Both have great pools and are in wonderful locations, especially Tech. The whole world can get to Atlanta direct and there are a zillion hotels there.

I do beleive that Ga Tech is putting in for 2010 SCY Nats. That would be nice. Very nice facility and very drivable for me.
But, uh, how is PR in August? Swim outside or in?
Average temperature in August (according to weatherReports.com is 82.
As for the facility, it is both indoors and outdoors. It was based on the design of the Atlanta Games pool. The side walls are open, the scoreboard end wall is open and there is a roof over the entire facility to provide shade. I was there last year for a meet and it was hot outside, but surprisingly comfortable in the natatorium.
To see what the pool looks like, go to www.natacionmasterpr.com/Photos Natatorium.htm
Photos in a Powerpoint doc? Sigh.
This would be awesome to have it at Tech. We can have a side trip to Stone Mtn and see the Confederate Heros carved on the world's biggest rock. Ooh, and the Varisty is only 2 blocks from Tech, home of the world's most infamous late night grub down treats. tjburk might even attend if he can get his tractor running and drive up from Gnat City, GA.
Yup, those are the two bidders. I believe the Michigan bid is for Ann Arbor also, but I haven't seen that bid yet. There is also a rules proposal under consideration at convention (see R18 in www.usms.org/.../proposals.pdf) to limit USMS nationals to be within the boundaries of USMS, which would rule out the San Juan bid.
Would love to know who proposed THIS little gem.

Since it's the South, I can use my rocket launcher to shoot at things, things like stone confederates, right?
As of right now, Ga Tech is the sole bidder for the 2010 USMS SCY Nationals.
They actually *officially* put in a bid?
That is good news, word 'round the campfire is that GA Tech has a very fast pool.
If they get the event (shoo-in?) then everybody and their dog can get there. Hotlanta has the busiest airport in the world and Delta has partnerships with many other large airlines. 2010 would be a well-attended Nationals methinks.
I am not doing Clovis next year but a bunch of 'zonies will. My plan is to do Indy and swim the following events:
400IM
200IM
200BR
100BR
100FL
...and as many relays as I can get on.
Now if we can get get Sam Perry healthy again we should have some fast relays.
