Clovis in 09??

So, now that we are on the countdown to May 09 - who is coming and what do you plan to swim? This will be my first US Master's National meet, and it happens to be happening in my back yard (at least very close to where I grew up and swam USA club). Over is San Luis Obispo now, but it's a short hop, skip, and jump over the foothills to Clovis!
  • Yes. I have my copy right here and just finished reviewing it yesterday. It looks like a fantastic venue for a Masters nationals. Now how about LCM for 2010? Rumor has it San Juan, PR is going to make a bid along with a location somewhere in Michigan. I presume Michigan would be U of M at Ann Arbor, right?
  • I have no idea what this means. Just being silly. Guess it didn't work as well as I'd hoped.
  • Not sure if you mean me or Ande or someone else, but I don't know why anyone would fear a wimpy breastroker. Whose butterfly is slower than his backstroke. :) (Does this qualify as the earliest trash talk ever?) Chris, I was indeed referring to you. I once thought I had a chance to be faster than Mike Ross, but that goal will never happen, so I have to challenge people 10 years older than me, and have genes that favor all aspects of backstroke. As far as trash talking, I have now printed your post and put it on the back of my locker.

We got spirit yes we do, We got spirit how 'bout you? My money is on Jeff in five rounds by TKO. OK, back to work and no more mixing metaphors. Looking at too many technical documents for hours on end will do this to the human mind.
  • My understanding is that Indy will have a five day format, which means a different order of events. Supposedly Saturday will be a relay-only day and will include 400M relays as well as the 800M free. I think Monday will be the distance day. Mel Goldstein is in the midst of getting the order of events approved so this is a work in progress. Things could change but Indy will probably have a unique order of events compared to past Nationals. I was wondering that myself... I was looking at past LCM nats meets with a 5-day structure (Mission Viejo, for example) and wondering how Indy was going to adapt. Can't wait to see the order of events. We're both going to Indy, the hubby might be going to Clovis, I'm not.
  • Not sure yet about Clovis....the facility is outstanding but the timing is brutal for us....and it is Fresno. Our option instead would be something we've never attended the YMCA Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale 4/6-4/9 www.ymcaswimminganddiving.org/2009sc.htm Sadly no go for Indy...August is by far our worst month for travel and we got a break with the timing this year for Portland. A group of us is talking very seriously however about making the trek to Sydney for the World Masters Games October 10/10-10/18 www.2009worldmasters.com/ Not sure what I'm going to be next year..

Florida in April would be nice indeed...
  • Yup, those are the two bidders. I believe the Michigan bid is for Ann Arbor also, but I haven't seen that bid yet. There is also a rules proposal under consideration at convention (see R18 in www.usms.org/.../proposals.pdf) to limit USMS nationals to be within the boundaries of USMS, which would rule out the San Juan bid. Another example of "all politics are local"? Mr. Moore, would love for you to go public and defend your position on this?
  • What's wrong with PR? It's no worse than going to Clovis from NYC! Same thing. Less time change. Better beaches! I don't see how it's any different than when LC Nats were held in Hawaii. But, uh, how is PR in August? Swim outside or in?
