Anyone have a suggestion on which is a better source of protein? (ie. protein shakes?) Or anyone have a favorite brand?
Thanks!

More often than not, the powdered mixes are whey based (for muscle building)
Some people digest it no problem. And others can experience stomach upset.
Either way, no pun intended, ;)...soy based drinks pack an equal ratio of protein per scoop.

Vanilla soy varieties were my preference. The flavoring takes the edge off the blechy taste.
( Ensure was a good brand if I recall correctly.)
Generally, animal protein is going to be more balanced than plant protein, although soy is probably one of the best plant proteins. I eat a lot of soy in the form of tofu, and it doesn't seem to be hurting me. Whey is very fast absorbing, which makes it ideal for having right after you work out. Casein is another protein from milk which digests more slowly.
As far as brands, I would go with something unflavored. The flavor in protein mixes is uniformly disgusting. Of course, the protein itself isn't exactly appetizing either. So make a fruit smoothie with it.
There appears to be some limited and contradictory evidence that soy could affect sperm count in men:

It seems to effect overweight people the most so fit swimmers may not be affected.
I use a combination of whey and egg white powder. It isn't perfect tasting, but mixed with some shelf stable chocolate milk it tastes okay. Somewhere I found a table showing the amino acid profiles of various protein sources, but it is hiding from me right now.
