wow, Beard might pull it off in the 200 ***. If she makes it in the 200 breats, she can spend all the time she wants at the Playboy mansion in that Grotto.

It's funny how you mentioned "200 ***" and "Playboy Mansion" into the same post.
For as laid back as Crocker comes across... I just think he is a bit jumpy and sensitive. However, I don't know what it is... I like him. There are some other swimmers out there that have bad personalities - some have been mentioned here - but somehow Ian is just so likeable. Spitz sounds a lot like Schubert.
As for Coughlin, I'm a bit disappointed in her post-race comment... BUT these kids have to come up with coherent answers as they are huffing and puffing right after their race - that has to be tough. As for all four strokes... still gotta work on that ***, honey (if she wants to be queenbee of the IM's). However, she is a veteran who is very talented and should know better.
I haven't noticed too much about the way swimmers are positioning themselves on the starts... but the platform of the block really looks small. Maybe they're scrunched?
I hope everyone has a great 4th of July (and a safe one too). I am headed to the Smoky Mountains this weekend to get some much needed rest - I hope I will be able to see a bit of finals action once in a while.

I noticed this, too. The blocks are shorter than Federal Way or Austin.
Nice article

This is a great read. Particularly for the non-aquatic media, they agony and ecstacy was captured well. The trials are just incredible drama.
The 100 back finals were just flat out close races. But Arianna Kukors and the 200 IM, that's just almost too painful to think about. I was pulling for her.
I think I can understand the Coughlin issue. Nothing against her personally, and to read much into the post-race interviews is IMHO foolish. But when you've had as much success as she's had, and has had as much of the spotlight as she's had, I just have to feel for her competitors. Her talent is undeniable, as is her success. But there are so many other great swimmers who are just as deserving of our admiration.
Here are my picks for tonights finals.
Men's 200 *** - Hansen will win and maybe challenge the WR. For the second slot it will be between Spann and Shanteau with Scott Usher with an outside chance. I am going to go with Spann very slightly but I know I picked him to win the NCAA 200 *** and he went about .75 slower than what he was capable of. I don't think he will that tonight but if he does Shanteau will get the spot. Usher could be a spoiler but he will have to swim better than he did in 2004 when he made the team.
Women's 200 Fly - I would like to see a couple of veterans make it like Mary Descenza and Kim Vandanberg but don't think they can beat the two top swimmers Breeden and Hersey the way they have been swimming at this meet and in the last 6 months. So I am going with Breeden to win and Hersey to take second.
Men's 100 Free - I am going to pick Jason Lezak to win and challenge for the WR. He seens to do very well at OT and in 2004 won this easily over the others when he set the AM back then. It won't be so easy but I see him getting in there at least for the first 2 spots. I am picking Weber-Gale for the second slot because of that :47.78 swim he had in the heats. For the 3rd thru 6th slots its to close to call and its anybody's ball game. I think the last 2 guys will feel real bad because they won't make the team. Of course of these second four, only one will be able to make the final 400 Relay unless they go faster than the Phelps :47.92 either now or in the prelims at the Olympics.
