Breaststroke Pullouts

Carrie I was wondering when you would chime in. I was going to flat out admit my bias for both Chris & Nadine and declare it a superior article, with great pictures, and demonstartions with out having received my issue.

As Carrie said, we haven't seen the final draft in print yet, because Illinois is among the last folks to get their copies (I wonder if there's something the publisher can do to improve the timing of the mailings)... For the folks who are looking for more details, I'm more than open to answering questions via email (there's only so much I could pack into 1500 words :) ). Anyway, thanks to everyone for your positive comments. They're very much appreciated!

Allen: I am going to say no. In all of the USMS Long Distance swims I have attended I have never seen any marking device or float at the starting area to prevent and enforce this. Also in Article 303 in the USMS Rule Book, I did not find anything about being disqualified for this and that included 303.8 where they detail in sections 1 tru 10 on what infractions would warrant a disqualification. About the only way you could really enforce this is in Postal swims where you have lane markers with a color that has the 15 meter distance. I have never heard of anybody getting disqualified for a stroke infraction in an Open Water race like you would see in a Pool competition. What I have always found interesting is that in Long Distance Long Course Meter Postal Events (5K and 10K) that USMS does not follow the LCM FINA Rules about the age eligibility. Of course this would really mess up our USMS Postal Open Water competitions because the other postal swims (1 Hour, 3K, and 6K) are swam SCY and you would have swimmers not consistent with age requirements. I think the reason here is the same in that Open Water Rules are different that Pool Competition Rules.

My daughter(14) saw this article and actually grabbed the magazine and took it to school to read in her free time. She said there was other articles that she wanted to read as well. How cool is that. This is a kid I thought we were losing to swimming! She wants to know when the next issue comes out. It helps she knows and loves Nadine!

Of course it's the postal service. The reached their peak with the Pony Express and it's been downhill ever since.

Mine usually come farely late compared to others and I am in Illinois. I got it this week.

Thank you to all for the positive feedback on the May/June pictorial. I'm thrilled to know people enjoyed it and are talking about it. Dorothy, I'm particularly pleased to hear about how much your daughter is enjoying the magazine. Please tell her the guy on page 4 says if she continues swimming, she could be like Nadine and swim Masters. To answer the age-old question about when your magazines will arrive: sorry to be repetitive, but they are all mailed at the same time. If you receive your copy significantly later than everyone else, please check with your local post office. It's quite possible that they hold certain classes of periodicals for later delivery.
