Anybody here ever used breaststroke fins? What do you think of them. Thanks.
  • Anybody here ever used breaststroke fins? What do you think of them. Thanks. I tried them for 2 laps and I hated them! They seemed to really put a lot of stress on my knees. If you have any kind of knee problems, I wouldn't use them. I'm not a great breaststroker so I may not be a good judge.
  • What is a breaststroke fin? (Really, I don't know.)
  • What are they supposed to do?

Its a fin used specifically for Breaststroke. The one I saw was made by Speedo. They are kind of strange looking and was wondering what Breaststrokers thought of them as a training tool.

I use both types of Breaststroke fins almost daily. The Speedo ones and the Positive Drive ones......Love them!!! Like Beth said though....a little stressful on the knees. I wouldn't use them much if you have weak knees. Start slow and build up.
  • I've only seen the fins and haven't tried them. I think they are for both strength and form. I'm scared to try them. Just as paddles can help some people and ruin other peoples shoulders I'm afraid they would hurt my knees. I'm always on the edge of knee pain and find I must be very careful. If anyone has used them and likes them let me know, but I doubt I'd ever use them.:dunno:

i used them in practice a few times and our team doesn't have a small enough size for my foot so it was bothersome, but i'm sure if i had a smaller size it would help
  • Paul, I vote for using that monofin with breaststroke arms.

I love swim toys, and my BS stinks, so I got the Speedo fins. I did not notice any added stress on my knees, but i did feel like they threw off the timing of my stroke. Yes, they have helped to correct & imporve my BS kick technique. One of the team breaststrokers tried them and called them "rocket jets". They really do move a lot of water if used properly. This is where I run into trouble. Moving more water on the kick slows down my stroke turnover (it feels like I glide too long) and messes with my timing. Did I mention my BS stinks? Bottom line--love them for kick sets. Definitely helping to improve my kick. Recommend borrowing a pair to test out before laying out $50 bucks though. If looking to buy, try swimoutlet.com when they are in stock they are reasonably priced. (Got mine for $35) Dana
