Lots and lots and lots of kicking. You swim further in LCM and therefore have to be in even better shape, your stroke becomes more important. I would advise trying to find an LCM pool and getting there a few times just to get the feel, it takes awhile to get the feel even if you have done it previously.
I always feel very out of shape when I swim LCM even when I'm not. It's a lot more swimming. You'll have to over train for your races for example, for the 50 free do 75s, the 100 do 150s. And kick like crazy because you will be amazed how much more you kick between the walls.
I would love to swim LCM because I am not good at turns. I am in NY and there doesn't seem to be any LCM meets. In fact there are not that many in the country for masters...what's up with that? Is it because they want to keep part of the pool open for family swims?
I have never swam in lcm before but I plan to this summer. What adjustments should I make to training for lcm in a scm pool?
I take it you mean you plan to compete lcm but can only train scm?
Go to as many meets as possible and warmup/warmdown as much as possible. Some of it (a lot of it) is simply mental and a matter of "de-sensitizing" yourself to the fact it just takes a little longer for the walls to come along. Stick around after the meet and warm down as much as possible as well. Get those "already paid" laps in.
You'll get used to it.
First, let me say that this is a great thread idea, especially for anyone who is looking to go to Worlds 2008. LCM meet, smack dab in the middle of SCY season. EEK! FlyQueen, you've got some regal advice as normal. Ande, you out there anywhere? I'd love to hear your take on this!

Personally, I don't think you need to make any adjustments now. As long as you keep training hard, it won't hit you as hard as it could. Once it is LCM season, it will take a few workouts to get the feel, and then you're good to go. It is going to be different with less turns, but you're going to find you can get your swim groove and then keep it going for another 35 meters, rather than have to prepare for another turn right away.

Rtodd - check out the "meet announcements" thread for the announcement for my team's LCM Terrapin Cup Meet in July. Its a great meet, and what better place than DC to be for the 4th of July! We'll also be hosting the Colonies Zone meet in August.
(sorry for the shameless plugs, but as meet director, its in my best interest to have a well-attended event!)
It's a leap, that's for sure. I couldn't swim LCM very well without training in a LCM pool; that turn was solely missed and I didn't realize how much difference there was.
From my point of view, I'd start doing Tennessee Tumblers right away unless you already are (no breaths from flag/turn/flag).
The only time I get to swim LCM is in the summer. Its a pleasure to be swimming outdoors in the early morning, but my summer focus is OW. I usually do tune up sessions at the pool, getting my stroke nice and long. Last summer I worked a lot with a Tempo Trainer. Sets like 50m at 34 SLP starting with a 1.00 second stroke rate. Two or three reps then up the tempo to .95 seconds per stroke etc. repeat until failure.
LCM is the place to work on stuff that is disrupted by the short swimming intervals of SCY.
There was a thread a little while back that compared the performances of those who trained LCM vs those who trained SCY.
