training for lcm in a scm pool

I have never swam in lcm before but I plan to this summer. What adjustments should I make to training for lcm in a scm pool?

  • Lots and lots and lots of kicking. You swim further in LCM and therefore have to be in even better shape, your stroke becomes more important. I would advise trying to find an LCM pool and getting there a few times just to get the feel, it takes awhile to get the feel even if you have done it previously. I always feel very out of shape when I swim LCM even when I'm not. It's a lot more swimming. You'll have to over train for your races for example, for the 50 free do 75s, the 100 do 150s. And kick like crazy because you will be amazed how much more you kick between the walls.
