Has anybody ever tried a 'swim band" to keep your hair dryer under a cap? I use one and yes it works! You make it your self.. there not sold.

Do you wear the bubble crepe cap on top? or just a regular swim cap? Because I think that might be a really good idea, but I don't think I could pull off the caps that they show on the site:-)?

Yes I use the bubble strap cap over the swim band just as the page shows. The bubble caps are easy to put on, much more so the the latex or silicon type. The swim band works under or over any type swimcap to keep water out and its really simple to make. The silicon caps made into a swim band work best. I will say you have to get the swim band and the outer cap on "just right". Sometimes I get a leak on one side or the other never both, most times its bone dry right away even back strokeing. It does save time blowdrying ect and is great for long hair or lunch time swimmers with little locker room time. Several swimmers at my pool really like it.

I use a sliced off silicon cap under my full silicon cap largely to keep the water out of my ears. It still lets a little water in. And isn't your hair wet anyway from sweat? Mine sure is.

From sweat.. no. I would say the swim band and bubble cap is about 95-98 dry.and thats pretty dry hair. and no water in my ears either.
You have to pull the swim band band down low over your ears to make it work. If the ear shows it will leak around there. also the bubble caps come in head sizes so you have to get one thats close to your size. Small med, or large. Also I put my bubble cap on at just at the same level as the swim band in the front so theres no red marks on my forehead. If I put the bubble cap on over the band all around its even a bit more dryer. Any way the swim band used under any cap does keep out more water.
Kyra, most that wear two caps, like Natalie wear one then put their goggles on then put a second cap on. I suspect, though I could be wrong, that it has to do with wanting the goggles under the cap, but not wanting the goggle strap directly on the hair.
I have a theory that air under a cap is a slight advantage for breaststroke and fly as it makes it easier to lift your head(with your body, not your neck) and that wet hair makes it slightly harder. If I'm right this would give a slight competitive advantge. You can be sure I'll try it at my next meet.
This is a good point. At the 2004 Olympics (I think that's when it was, it might have been the World Championships), I noticed a lot of people wearing two caps. Jenny Thompson is the one I remember. She had a regular cap and then one of the racer domes from Speedo over the top.
Does wearing two caps accomplish the same thing as the swim band, or do you have to cut it for it to work? Can you use two latex caps or do they need to be different materials?

Wearing two caps is more watertight then the swim band if both caps can cover the ears, cutting the inner cap for a band makes it come down over the ears to seal all that area which is where most leaks come from. Lots of people can not get a latex or silicon cap to completely cover their ears .
The olympic swimmers were wearing a second cap a couple of years ago and the outer cap was something like a hard shell or a least a stiffer plastic . That system was strictly for speed not hair care. I saw the "speed" cap on the web and it was about 80 dollars but have not sceen them since.
