I was fine at swimming; got home it started to ache now it hurts to bend it or have any lateral motion. Ice and advil huh?
I think it's probably just a bit strained...let's hope...

OK knee not better yet. It's improved but tonight was supsed to be *** night but it felt a little twingey so I ditched the BR bar maybe 2x 25 sprints for form, and did then 1500 free, worked on turns and pullouts. Lastly did 4x25 sprints of fly and back..then warmed down with some free.
Not a huge workout but I used the time to be technical on the walls and improve my fly and back.
I have a meet next Sunday. I guess I'll have to play it by ear. If knee isn't ready to go on Friday...I'll have to ditch it and forfeit the cash...
Well I guess I could race and medicate but then that could leave my knee aggravated and only 2 weeks until New England.
:shakeshead:
Wearing a brace now for support and precaution.
Excuses, Rich.
I'll be doing my first masters 100 *** tomorrow at UMBC - will let you know how it goes! Its too bad you aren't coming, because with that ailing knee, I would think that would bode well for my chances of a head-to-head victory. :dedhorse:
Well I'm definitely not going to risk blowing out the NEM and Zones for a good but for me, training meet. It's not that bad but maybe another day or too rest and some midweeks sprints will be enough.
Good luck in the 100...I'll be peeking and deciding whether I need to pin your photo up in the locker for motivation... ;)
Warren,If I'm remembering my anatomy correctly "Breaststrokers Knee"(yes thats a real diagnosis) is a strained medial collateral ligament. Rich, now is a good time to work on undulation and fast hands with breaststroke pull and dolphin kick.
I'll be doing lots of that and buoy pulls on Monday...the dolphin kick *** pull sill leaves me feeling like something isn't right...dunno why.
The little *** I did felt much more organised though...my recovery is speeding up and my arms are going above the surface creating that lunge...I think it's begining to settle in.
I actually think the icy ground is a factor too because you knee has to perform lateral stabilising actions, which hit right on the strained area.
I think the icy ground may be a factor as well, I walk on it once a year when I ski (the week after next :p). Maybe you should move to Texas ;) .
Excuses, Rich.

Muppet,
Good luck! Go Terrapins!
Stud,
I was a state-level Breaststroker in Highschool. My senior year, my knees hurt so bad that I could not swim it in practice. However, when I raced, I did not feel the pain, probably mind over matter. Looking back, it probably was not the best thing for my knees, but I was still able to swim it and so far, 25 years later, my knees are still ok for breaststorke. I know what you mean by doing a dolphin kick, it just does not feel right. Good luck Rich, listen to your body.

My right knee was ruined by breaststroke (well and soccer and basketball too a bit I suppose..LOL!)....thats why I am sticking to only the 100 IM from now on....I had a friend that swam breaststroke in college but he was pretty much a pure breaststroker only (and a pretty fast breaststroker at that!)....I noticed that when he swam freestyle he had the funkiest freestyle kick I ever saw....his feet were pointed out at right angles to his legs in the plane of the water's surface and then they would rotate in and rotate back out as he kicked....Anybody else seen a pure breaststroker kick freestyle kick this way??....Is this what happens when you spend that much time swimming like a frog?

p.s. Good luck at your upcoming meet Muppet!

I will. I'm not that worried about my kick and not swimming for a week or so. My weak ponts are the recovery and eh steamline. If I can't swim *** I can still do crawl, back and fly for workout on the legs...
So like Allen said some pull drill and dolphin kick will do...If I'm feeling the knee at the end of the week I can skip the meet. I actully think it will be ok and if I'm easy on it this week that will work like a taper a bit,a nd keep the legs fresh. In the meet we'e talking about a total of 14 length of ***. I did some kicks and stuff this past monday without issue so I'm sure an other few days rest will see me recover. I actually think the icy ground is a factor too because you knee has to perform lateral stabilising actions, which hit right on the strained area.
OK well, here is how my knee feels. It's draggin on a bit and not really getting worse or better.
I wake up and when I first move my leg it twinges--just a little.
I feel a little twinge if I kick in ***.
If I put any pressure for on the inside of y foot e.g passing a soccer ball I feel it a little bit.
Relaxing and such; bending, sitting, standing and the motions involved therin cause no issue.
Knee circles to warm up etc cause no issue.
I have one very sore area if I put pressure on the inside of knee feels bruised but no visible bruising.
Is this what other breaststroker knee sufferers experience, or does this sound somewhat different or minor. It seems very restricted to a few motions.
