I was fine at swimming; got home it started to ache now it hurts to bend it or have any lateral motion. Ice and advil huh? I think it's probably just a bit strained...let's hope...
  • ..... but I pulled out a length of stretch tube (red, a piece from physical therapy of course) Tied it in a length just wide enough to go right above my knees and did all my breastroke with it on. I remembered doing this when this stroke went from frog kick to whip kick way back when..... Anyway, it forced me to keep my knees narrower and forced me to work the whip and push water back with my feet and put less stress on my knees. The problem did resolve and I have not had another problem with my knees since. Wish there was as easy a remedy for the shoulders. This is a great idea. I'm going to try it.
  • Sounds like from your description of your workout you didn't get your knees warmed up enough. My standard warmup is 100 flutter kick,100 free fist closed,100 free,100BR REALLY SLOW,100BR slow,100BR building into 200 pace,100BR building into 100 pace, and then I'm ready to workout.Thats a fairly short warmup, but I bore easily and it gets my knees warmed up and loose.

I look like a vegie salad in the making. Donna Donna, sorry to be laughing but what a funny picture you paint. I'm usually a fruit salad -- blueberries on right shoulder & mixed fruit on left, never thought of myself as a fruit salad!:joker: :joker: :joker: SwumStud -- I can help you with this one. Breastroke, our best stroke, causes tremendous stress on the knees. Your probably not warming up enough and probably getting the knees to wide. Last year I had my left knee so sore I could barely swim. My team mates laughed at me, again, but I pulled out a length of stretch tube (red, a piece from physical therapy of course) Tied it in a length just wide enough to go right above my knees and did all my breastroke with it on. I remembered doing this when this stroke went from frog kick to whip kick way back when..... So, you have a temporarily crippled friend here in Roatan who says: I feel your pain!! And I am laying on the couch with peas on one shoulder, corn on the other, brussel sprouts on my left knee, and my ankles elevated; I look like a vegie salad in the making. Donna Aw Donna, your're so funny I could just eat you all up!! LMAO haha c'mon you knew that one was coming. It could be warming up but if it is, then it is motion specific. I did 1250 yards of front crawl and 4x 25 underwater BR and then started ***. It could als be b/c I walked up a really steep slope on the way into the pool and had to stretch my stride over some ice. It's easing off but I'm not swimming until monday and will do just the frontcrawl and *** pull only drills it if it's bothering me. Allen, together we're golden: my shoulders your knees

I normally stretch my knees and groin too but didn't do that yesteday...pool was mobbed and people were lingering around if I'd got out to stretch I would have lost my lane. Good news is that it's feeling better. Ill do some knee and ankle circles in the water next workout..that normally sorts me out. I've never had an issue with knees in all my years of dance and martial arts etc, they're fairly stable Like you said Allen probably a bit cold and maybe an off form kick.

Kimberlie: What an idea. I am not a BR'er, so if you have any other PT stretch cord remedies for other strokes, start a new post!!! Fruit salad or veggie salad, at least we are salads. Donna
  • Now you are a true breaststroker.Seriously, knees are not built for breaststroke and I find I have to be very careful in warming up slowly and easing up into sprinting. For right now:ICE,ICE,ICE. Get well soon.
