Possible shoulder injury

I think I may have hurt my shoulder a little in practice today. We used parachutes for the first time (only for 4 half-laps), and my shoulder's been a little sore since then. I have a meet next weekend, so I want to make sure I don't make it worse. Knowing me, it'll probably be perfectly fine by tomorrow, but what can I do to make sure I'll be fine next weekend?

Use ice for 30-60 minutes after practice and before bed. You could try IB Profen, lay off on the heavy pulling.
  • I usually find backing off alittle every other day tends to help me, since I have been swimming 6 days pre week since June. Sometimes adding fins can help to relieve some of the stress on the shoulders and help you to engage some muscles that are important but sometimes forgotton. Good luck at your meet. I think I know the one you are going to. If you swim in the St. Nicholas meet I'll be there in December. Donna:wave:

It felt pretty good in practice today. The only thing I really changed was I added some drills at the beginning and skipped the pull set. I don't think I really injured it, at least not much of any, but I'd rather be a little overcautious, especially since I've never had any shoulder problems before.

With my shoulder probs, I switch to a different stroke to ease the pain. I hope you are feeling better today.

No, I'm going to a meet at Elon that's just for college clubs. I unfortunately don't have time to do any Master's or USS meets - too busy with classwork and other stuff.
  • Are you going to Augusta? I actually swim both Masters and USS meets this year. This is actually my month off from meets, not workouts thou.

Donna, I'm actually going to a meet with my college club team, so I doubt it's the one you're thinking of. It will be my first time going to a two-day meet (actually my first time going to a meet longer than half a day), so that'll really be a new experience.
