Simple. You have absolute power to change any technique rules, start/finish rules, age up rules, sky is the limit as long as the rules pertain to swimming. What would you change and why?
I second that motion. And have definitely wanted that one every since I was a wee age grouper.
You're showing your youth here. Most of us never imagined we could do something as strange as turn onto our stomachs to do a backstroke turn of any ilk when we were age groupers.
I don't know if its been mentioned here already or not?.....but in addition to having a 200 and 400 medley relay, how about an 800 medley relay (200 of each stroke)? It would compliment the already existing 800 free relay....Swimmers already swim 200's in each stroke so it doesn't seem like a major stretch. I guess the U.S. would be heavily favored in that relay along with the other 2 medley relays though. Perhaps swimmers wouldn't want to swim it either b/c one 200 stroke race (Prelims and Finals) is enough for one meet?

Hmm, that sounds a lot like myI was hoping there was some more graceful way to do it.
Just off the top of my head I think the same turn use in normal, one-arm at a time backstroke would work best. Just finish your two-arm pull, then only recover one arm, but cross over your body so you end up on your front at which point you execute a normal flip turn.
I saw an events list for an upcoming college swim club meet and they are having a 4 x 100 Im relay, meaning 4 separate peolple do a 100 IM. They should add this as an offcial event in masters. And I think it would be cool if there was a 4 x 200 Im relay in the olympics. America would dominate that event.
Warren, those are pretty cool ideas! The non-formal college club team I swim with will occasionally swim meets where they have an medley relay with 25 each person. Those are such fun!
I'd love to see the Olympics feature the 50s for the strokes. I think it would be a great way to extend some careers - think how Popov and GHjr have been duking it out in the 50 free in their "advanced age." Maybe Ed Moses would have a shot at that elusive Olympic Gold in a 50. :dedhorse:
It will be a little clumsy just because it's difficult recovering only one arm when both are down at your side, but I think with a little practice it would work well.
The other option I can think of is to initiate the turn onto your stomach during the pull. In this scenario, during that final stroke into the wall, you would pull with just a single arm and rotate your body toward the pulling arm. Your other arm would probably need to be moved down to your side because you aren't allowed a pull after you're on your stomach. That would violate the bit about the pull being part of a "continuous turning action."

America would dominate that event.
this would be something unique beacause..................
sometimes, for some of the us, it's the effort and taking part that counts...and a Gold is really, really, really, special

I will give that a try. I did a 400IM, LCM thankfully, on the weekend and watching the video the time to turn was incredible.
