You are the Rules Dictator

Simple. You have absolute power to change any technique rules, start/finish rules, age up rules, sky is the limit as long as the rules pertain to swimming. What would you change and why?

You are all so very entertaining. In opposition to ..."the string bean principle"... "the rough draft before the masterpiece, breastroke then it gave birth to fly!"... one should consider that Breastroke, having arrived first, allowed the opportunity for the development of the other strokes and breastroke should be held in high esteme, even honored, a stroke that all swimmers should work to master. Had God not created the Heavens and the earth first (Gen. 1:1) there would be no place for the light and darkness to exist, no place to put the land and the water, etc. "...Having turned their eyes from God (tm), he cast them out of the lakes and rivers and ocean , declaring: 'I take from you all knowledge of freestyle crawl. Henceforth, thou shalt swim like frogs in troughs of concrete.' And in His (tm) wrath, he gave them rules to the breaststroke designed to confuse and disunite them, thus sundering the brotherhood/sisterhood of all the worlds people. Chaos reigned and all was darkness (with a few exceptions like the invention of ice cream)." (Appendectomy 2:4:6:8) - Rev. LBJ, Pastor, St. Bridget Fonda's Church and Home for Wayward Female Breaststrokers

Peter: I'm even happier now. Signature-wise, I mean. It's not bad. But I liked your "pain" one better.

Ha, ha. I aim to please. But where's your signature? Hope you're getting your endorphin fix today. I'm going to the gym to lift weights at lunch. I think I did quite well on the signature front.

I would change the back-to-*** turn on all I.M.'s. Henceforth, any swimmer would eb able to turn on their belly, flip, and push off into breaststroke. I think it is silly that the rules still make you touch the wall with one hand, turn, and go. It is inefficient.

Has anyone noticed the new breed of frogs are doing the dolpin kick and no longer do the frog kick. I cannot wait to see them doing an over the water front leg recovery. Kimberlie - which came first frogs or dogs, I was told that dogs did dog paddle and taught the frogs to swim.

That is the origin of the rule, you have to finish each leg of the IM with a legal finish for that stroke. Which brings a question to mind, how do people who do two-arm backstroke do their turns?

Lindsay- they whack their heads really hard into the wall, grasp convulsively onto some part of the starting block in order to pivot their body around so they are on their back again, then pushing off from the wall with arms in a flap-flap-flapping motion (remember as a kid, playing in the tub?) creating a sizable bow wave as they create maximal resistance. Really.

Hmm, that sounds a lot like my two arm backstroke turn. I was hoping there was some more graceful way to do it. Whenever I try to learn back crawl I end up with a shoulder injury, so I almost never swim backstroke, and when I do it is two arm. I haven't found a turning technique that feels reasonable yet, and have had several close calls with :frustrated: Surely one of those swimmers at world that was doing two arm backstroke had come up with some sort of reasonable turn? I wonder if they flip onto their front when doing non-IM turns...

And have definitely wanted that one every since I was a wee age grouper.
