Someone just posted this on the forum
From the Stanford parking website:
"One-day "Visitor" scratcher permits (which allow parking in Pay & Display lots and at meters), available for $12 each at the P&TS office (open weekdays 7:30 a.m. -5 p.m.)."
So, unless the LOC has made special arrangements you can plan on $12/day for parking, and hope that space is available once you pay for the parking pass.
You've got to be kidding me..... If it's 12.00 dollars a day that is so unfair..... I don't think I'll be able to afford going to the pool except on competition days. I think my motel is 2 miles away..... Looks like I'm walking.......
I love getting taken advantage of.
- Note: I remember now.... Orginally I had called the college and was told it was free...... I'm going back to my notes.... This is so unacceptable........

Jennifer- I don't know what parking will turn out to be, but one of the reasons I didn't go to Worlds was that it would be expensive. California is very expensive, some very expensive real estate in Palo Alto. Having said that, I feel embarassed by your vehemence on this subject. Many swimmers end up car pooling at meets like this, or as said elsewhere, using public transportation. Perhaps save the histrionics for something important?
Trying to find solutions? Sure doesn't appear that way to this reader. Your many threads on this one topic appear rather to be an inordinate amount of whining, kvetching, complaining and "woe is me."
I can understand being on a budget and maybe you don't travel much so this comes as a shock. But I don't think it's really all that unexpected to anyone who has ever been to big meets or other events in urban settings.
So feel free to inquire about public transportation options, feel free to walk, and a "gee, I'm disappointed I didn't know this earlier" is ok too . . . but imho you've gone a bit over the top on the subject, blowing it up a tad out of proportion.

Officially, no one has said what parking will cost at Worlds. The $12 a day is speculation. The FINA e-letter that has been coming out described it as "a nominal charge." I'll wait and figure out my options once we know for sure what a nominal charge is.
A thought... I need to be at the pool for six days of competition. IF parking is $12 a day that would be $72. Perhaps I could get a monthly pass for less.
I'm confused. If you go to the Stanford Avery Aquatics Center page, it says:
Parking
Public Parking (Free)
Parking is located in the Varsity Parking Lot. It can be accessed via Nelson Road, off of Galvez Street, north of Stanford Stadium. Marked disabled spaces are located in the southwest and southeast corners of the lot. A Disabled Placard (from any state) will be necessary to access the disabled parking lot.

Am I missing something?
That's what Stanford told me in February because no one knew from USMS what was happening with the situation.
So I am also confused about the whole thing.
Maybe it's a different lot?
The reason I am going is that for the first time in a long time it is going to be affortable for me as San Francisco is only 4 hours away from Mexico city.
12 USD/day would be nominal in M.C.
Spending this much money on a swim meet can be hard. I can understand why she is a little dismayed at the cost. Not everyone can sink money into the cost of going to worlds, yet I can see why it is attractive to go this year as it will be cheaper this year since it is in the states.
I think posters have been a little to hard on the first poster. Hopefully people can give ideas on where to park and how to keep the costs down. California certainly is not cheap to visit!
