  • re: tech suits at summer league meets I can certainly recall seeing a few tech suits here and there at some of the kiddo summer meets I've attended over the years. I remember some of the fast gals on my team busting out the aquablades at some point after they first came out back when I was swimming. I always had my team speedo suit, which was used 6-8 times a year (5 duals, maybe a b-meet or two doing breaststroke for sheets and goggles, plus divisionals), and then put into sub-swimtrunk support duty. As I began coaching, the Jammers came into popularity. I was/am not a fan. Almost all the boys wear them now. I remember my mom begging for suits with more coverage when I was younger, but these Jammers are just covering more skin - they're still "form-revealing." Oh well. At the meet this weekend, I used my old FS1 for my 400free, and my nearly-seethru-aquablade speedo the rest. I actually felt better with the speedo than the FS1. Come to think of it, I've had 4 PBs this summer wearing a brief-style suit (800, 1500, 100br 400im).

Are jammers faster or does more material = more drag?
  • How great to beat your competition in a drag suit while they are in fastskins. I won one masters LC nationals in the 50 m fly in a $20 dolphin suit - while flanked by gals in fastskins. But I do wonder, is there a huge difference between summer leaguers and masters wearing fastskins at local/ dual meets . . . I remember attending my first masters meet in '02 or '03 and being amazed at the number of swimmers in pricey fastskins. I really thought everyone would be in poly suits. :joker: I do feel for those kids who have a rude awakening when they get older . . . Well, masters swimmers are at least adults who have earned the money that they may foolishly throw away on fastskins in their obsession with their sport. An army of 8 year old kids wearing fancy FS IIs makes me slightly ill. As do parents who bribe their kids with iphones to get them to make zone time cutoffs.
  • What made me sick were my friends who got promised new BMW's in exchange for Junior Nat cuts.Don’t let my son hear about the BMW’s. My bribe to him was that he wouldn’t have to mow the lawn if he made O Trial cuts this weekend.
  • Don’t let my son hear about the BMW’s. My bribe to him was that he wouldn’t have to mow the lawn if he made O Trial cuts this weekend. Best of luck to your son this weekend. Is he swimming at the State Meet in Athens? If so, that is a FAST pool. Please let us know if he makes it!! GOOD LUCK!;)
  • Yeah, good luck to Noah. Is his best shot the 200 free?
  • Don’t let my son hear about the BMW’s. My bribe to him was that he wouldn’t have to mow the lawn if he made O Trial cuts this weekend. Well, depending on the size of your lawn, and how much aversion he has to mowing, you might be able to buy him with the no mowing promise. Maybe some people so absolutely HATE lawn mowing that they might rather choose a weekend without it than a BMW. But probably not many. ;)
  • Yeah, good luck to Noah. Is his best shot the 200 free? He’s 0.4 seconds off in the 100 free, 1.0 in the 200 and 1.1 in the 100 fly. Unfortunately this weekend the 200 Free and 100 Fly are back to back, so he’ll most likely need to go for the 100 Fly in prelims and the 200 Free in finals. Beth, yes he is swimming at the State Meet in Athens. And my apologies for hijacking the thread by not ranting. Maybe someone will throw up at the meet or toss a noodle in the pool and I’ll have something to rant about.

Keifer has a sale on Fastskins $100. not much more expensive then a good swim suit of the cheaper variety. I bought 2 pairs of speedo trunks for me $70.
