Having just reached a point where I was increasing my distances each swim, working out at least 5 days per week (including running and some weights), and working on a real solution to making gains, I go out of town and get the #@%!! Flu...:frustrated:
OK there's my rant. Hopefully I'll be back at it in a few more days.
Get well soon! :bighug:

I don't have many rants concerning "swimming etiquette" per say, mainly just pool/facility management: things like ::85+ temps::who-knows-what ppm chemical lvls:: mildew/dark funky pool decks with poor air circulation::cloudy water:: etc.
Money is scarce nowadays for many things, i'm not talking about renovation, just better maintenance and upkeep of what we have to work with.
I'm not too worried about natural flora and fauna. I just don't like the messes that some humans bring.
There was a couple at my pool that would "bathe" in the swimming pool after a long bike ride. They wouldn't even change their lycras. I guess they used the pool as a washing machine.

But that, of course, is a pool management issue too. The pool manager/lifeguard/whoever should have fired their skanky a$$es out of there!

I'm pretty new to Masters so maybe I missed a memo, but I was under the impression that there were assigned sets for a reason. If you want to spend the entire practice doing 50 free sprints please don't yell at me for slowing you down when I do the assigned kick/drill/pull set. I check at every wall if someone is close behind I let them pass. If someone taps my toes mid lap I let them pass. If you're going to sit there stewing and not alert me to your presence my thinking is tough cookies!
If this is inappropriate lane etiquette please let me know

Ditto. The other day I got to practice a little early and was going to do some extra drills before the rest of the team showed up. As I was in the pool putting my cap and goggles on, I notice the guy in the lane next to me hock a giant loogie right into the pool water. I know there's always going to be stuff in the water I'd rather not think about, but that was nastier than I could tolerate. Total workout for the day: zero yards.
The high school that my team swims at is a community pool, meaning that during our practices, one lane of the pool is left available to the community. We usually go ahead and use this lane since its semi-rare that anyone uses the lane....but I tell you what, it burns me a little that I have to move outta that lane when some fatty arrives to "float" around the lane, and I have to move even though I am part of the community and my taxes go to support that lane...and I was there FIRST!!!!!!!!:rantonoff:
OK I've got one, though there are many I agree with that have already been said (pre-timed showers, noodlers, kids that jump in front of you (multiple times!) while you're swimming, and center-lane swimmers just to name a few)
Our old pool (thank the heavens our city just opened up another pool that has more lanes and MUCH better lap-swim times) had 6 lanes and VERY limited lap swim times. Most of the old guys that went there had been going for years, all knew each other and generally swim rather slowly and feel entitled to their pool time based on seniority, are retired and can show up to the pool wearing their bathing suits and ready to go..
Our pool only allows us into the changing room about 4-minutes prior to the beginning of the next swim time available. As I come from work, it takes me longer to get into my suit, cram my swim bag into the tiny lockers available and get out onto the pool deck. Inevitably the pool is already filled and I mean FILLED with at least two people per lane.
Despite the 'assigned lane speeds' there is a considerably slow person in EACH lane  so that if I were to ask anyone to circle swim I would not get much of a workout anyway, especially since many of the folks there won't stop and let you pass when you're right on their heels through multiple laps even with a huge lead time left for them! GRRRRR....:censor:
But now we have a new shiny pool that has more lanes so my rant is essentially non-existent now...:bolt:
happy swimming!
