  • Kinda a rant. When you reach deep into your swim bag, only to discover the gooey, disintegrated remains of a forgotten swim cap! YUCK! I hate that so much! I recently went thru a box of old swim stuff, and I found an old heat sheet book - and in it was a signed latex cap from Angel Martino... parts of it were crusty and other parts of it were stuck to the heat sheets... my Dad got her autograph for me at a meet in '95 and now it's totally destroyed. Completely forgot about it. =(

I mostly swim in lap pools at gyms. Most people there do not swim. I keep hearing over and over, "I can't swim well because I have too much muscle." I rank that right up there with people that are fat and claim it's because of genetics or...'thyroid problems'. It can't possibly be because they don't excersise and they eat like ****. Those people piss me off too, they keep telling me how lucky I am as if my constant training and good diet is a minor part in the equation.....I am just lucky to be in shape. I am very low bodyfat with lots of muscle and I swim just fine. You can't swim well because you don't know how to swim and you never conditioned yourself for it! Muscle mass/bone density???? Keep your bro-science to yourself, it is nothing more than an excuse to make yourself feel better about your lack in an ability. Those things might make a difference at a competitive level, but even people with 10x more muscle mass then the people I keep seeing making claims like this can learn how to swim laps fine.

We were tantalisingly promised a techsuit sale through Smallfly's team earlier this month at "deeply discounted prices". So I got all excited and the email arrived yesterday...... .........about 5.5% off Swimoutlet price, but we then have to add 8.25% sales tax, making them more expensive than buying direct:confused: Not sure if I should point this out to them? Still it prompted me to order a Yingfa!

I keep hearing over and over, "I can't swim well because I have too much muscle." One of my co-workers in his mid-20's claimed this at a pool party; sure enough, he cannot raise his arms above shoulder height when standing. He is short and has very thick muscles. He did OK in power lifting in high school. About 15 years ago I saw Peppo Biscarini demonstrate his shoulder flexibility. He was remarkable.

  • Flex can be worked on, if you try. I'm over weight cuz I love to eat too much - no genetics involved !!

Killer sinus infections from poorly maintained/overused pools. It's just this one pool that I swim at on weekends...water doesn't quite smell right, I think it may be that something is growing in their filter system.

When you're splitting the lane with someone and both of you are swimming freestyle and keeping a pretty swift clip compared to the rest of the pool and someone jumps in to circle with you and starts swimming a leisurely breaststroke. The guy who is wearing a 200 dollar technical jammer to sit in the jacuzzi. I even asked him, "I see you in a techsuit, but I've never seen you do laps" and he said he doesn't swim at all, he just uses the weight room and bought the suit for the jacuzzi. Seriously, who does that? The guy one lane over who sits on the wall for five minutes then watches for when I come into a turn so that he can push off and race me for a 25 or a 50 in the middle of a 500 or at the end of a workout when I'm clearly trying to swim down. When you're circling and the guy in front is going too slow, so you try and cut over to get in front of him and he speeds up to block you. Splitting an end lane and getting stuck with the side closest to the wall. I am 6'0 with a 6'6 wingspan. I can't tell you how many times I've jammed fingers hitting the ladder railing on freestyle recovery or fly, or scraped my fingers on backstroke. If you're just going to swim breaststroke or kick, please let me have the other side of the lane! Gutters that are not flush. Have you ever cracked your heels on a backstroke turn hitting a gutter lip? Not fun. The old man who thinks he is entitled to his own lane and will try and do some sort of horrible butterfly stroke when people try to get in the lane.

Seriously, who does that? That's funny, but maybe if more people did that suit prices would come down. • why infuriating? it happens to me and i think its funny. usually young guys who are obviously very competitive but yet unwilling to train. the best is when they thrash around and kick up a storm but still don't "win" the "race". I agree. This one is much more humorous than infuriating. My observation has been that anyone who could actually beat me wouldn't actually stoop to doing this, thus I pretty much always "win" these "races." The other guy certainly expends a lot more energy, though!
