Free choice, I think it is all are welcome, the good the bad and the ugly even those who cannot spell.
That is one of the things I love about master's swimming, people do try to make everyone feel good, regardless of seasoned veteran or a newcomer to the sport.
Whoa! What did I miss? Where is the hostility coming from? :(
I can only guess that "It's a Slow Show" just wanted to see what kind of reaction he or she could get - perhaps to become the most controversial post?!?
Sorry "It's a Slow Show", but I think you are alone on your island. Swimmers are notorious for their friendly/fun attitude and willingness to help each other.
I'm getting warm and fuzzy just thinking about it. ;)
Now let's have a big group hug and sing some folk songs.

What, do you want to make people feel bad? When I was in high school, our team was divided. One group thought that they were better than everyone elsebecasue they lived at the club or their family was well off. The rest of us were there to swim. Sometimes ourpractices were so upsetting that we couldn't get through them.
If you wan to call peole names, intimidate them or talk down to them, you are in the wrong discussion board.

What does this mean? If we are amateurs, at least we can spell correctly.
This forum is open to anyone with access to the internet. Since USMS stands for United States Masters Swimming, a novice might reasonably assume that a question about swimming could be answered by someone with mastery of the sport.
Obviously the cover of the May/June issue might send out a slightly different message, but that's the subject of another thread.

Now now Gull, the original poster asked about swimming, not noodling. I don't know of any confirmed noodling questions that have resulted from that cover.
The USMS discussion board is not just about professional or competitive swimming –it’s for anyone interested in engaging in a rather unique athletic activity.
Unfortunately, swimming is not a popular sport (it has only 93,300,000 sites on the net compared with 261,000,000 for football, and 155,000,000 for basketball) and except for the Olympics, there’s hardly anything about it in the mainstream news either.
However, there are actually 100's of millions (if not a couple billion) swimmers, so I would guess that most of those visiting the USMS (and other similar sites) would be classified as recreational swimmers, -IE- everyday people such as office professionals, scientists and engineers, and blue collar workers, high school and college students, etc.
I work in engineering (although very interesting work, it is rather solitude and lonely at times). However, I love swimming for the benefits of a recreational athletic activity (a change of pace from my job and the increased opportunity for social interaction) rather than for any competitive reason.
Happy Swimming!
