Hey- does anyone have a fav. sunblock that they'd recommend? Summer's fast approaching here, and I don't want to fry to a crisp! peace...
  • Actually my favorite is the baby block that comes in a pink bottle by Coppertone. It does not sting the eyes, has a nice scent, and works well.

I use Maui Solar Max. It's totally waterproof, non-greasy, and has a set of ingredients that provide protection against both the UVB spectrum and the upper part of the UVA spectrum. The laboratory that did the testing to determine its SPF factor reported that it was the only one of the more than 8000 sunscreens they had tested for which they didn't see any reduction in protection from prolonged exposure to water. You can read about it and order it at: www.life-enhancement.com/article_template.asp

Bullfrog is the best!! It's a little bit more expensive, at least most places I've seen, but it's definately worth it. It's awesome in the water too!! ~Kyra

I wish my gym had an outdoor pool. :( There is a YMCA with indoor/outdoor pools that is close to my house but it looks like a tenement so I drive an extra 20 miles each way to go to a nice facility.
  • I just wrote an article on UV protection for my health column in Field & Stream. I interviewed a professional fishing guide who spends 240 days a year on the Gulf waters near Corpus Cnristi. I've always had the best luck with Bullfrog myself, so I asked him what he thought. He said that by far the best--in terms of thickness of the goop, protection against the sun, not needing to constantly reapply because of sweat or water--is AloeGator. Might be worth checking out. I think Bullfrog does make a product that surfers like because it tends to stay on even after some abrasion by the sand. One of the dermatologists I interviewed also suggested wearing a sunproof rash guard to protect your back while swimming.
  • All three of my VERY fair-skinned children (under age 5) spent a lot of time in the CA sun last summer. I always put Waterbabies on them. I think it was SPF 45 or 50. I used it as well and really liked it- not greasy, etc. I also bought a "stick" sunblock for easy application to the face. That was by BananaBoat I think. No freckles or burns for anyone. I also started to adhere to the directions on the bottle too, about applying at least 10 min before going in the water. No problems :)
  • Yep, Karen, that is what I was talking about, just could not remember the name. My water babies are not babies anymore, soon to be 17 and 12, but still like the stuff in the pink bottle.

'One of the dermatologists I interviewed also suggested wearing a sunproof rash guard to protect your back while swimming." What is a 'rashguard'?
