(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.)
I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense.
What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

ENCORE!!! ENCORE!!!
I love reading your sweet poems, Swimmy! I can definitely relate to some of those wonderful poems.
Here's one I have written:
"I Am Swimmer"
I am Swimmer, see me swim...
I have gotten very slim...
...and I look good on a speedo too!
Long-Course, Short-Course... I've been training,
indoors and I'm not complaining.
I am Swimmer!
I am SWIMMER!
...See me swim!
I am Swimmer, eating carbs...
I use them for an energy charge!
...and I burn them when I go and race!
People say I've gotten thinner,
'Cause Masters made me a winner...
I am Swimmer!
I am SWIMMER!
...Burning carbs....
I am Swimmer!
Here I stand
...far and wide across this land...
...and I am training everywhere!
From DC to Midland
...I train in pools or in dry land
I am Swimmer!
I am Swimmer!
I am SWIMMER!
I am Swimmer!
I am SWIMMER!
I AM SWIMMER!!!

Actually, this is a parody to a song by a Canadian novelty band; the Arrogant Worms, called "I am Cow".
I thought the idea of changing it to "I am Swimmer" sounded appropriate, and thanks for the compliment Seagurl51!

Day after Day
Poem after Poem
You read posts from these people
And feel like you know 'em.
Offering encouragement
And much needed advice
Like how to do the butterfly
And when you need to ice.
Swimming on your own
Can be really quite a bore
But when you realize there are others out there
It becomes much less of a chore
You my new friends
Have become my swimteam
You help keep me grounded
And help me to dream.
Thank you all very much for being such cool people!!

HAHAHAHA!!! Yes, it's quite entertaining to walk into class sometimes. Get some strange looks...so I just look back like they are crazy for not being wet.
Well I'm sure that in the case where your so wet that your clothes are sticking to your body that at least "some" of the male students in your class are not exactly complaining about it......They may, however, be a little distracted from the day's lecture by it....but if it's your Biology class (from what you have said earlier), chances are they are tuning out the teacher anyway...so no harm no foul!

p.s. I am working on a song for this thread right now...Sonic Swimmer inspired me with his nice song (and it is also inspired by your Poem called "Friend of The Water")....It may take me a little while before I post it though...remember that I am old and feeble....so my aging mind is also feeble as well....plus my brain is trapped in that giant green fish head of mine ...which only confounds the situation!
Oh, what a nice team,
Some of our poetry is a real scream,
Laughing, Smiling, Hugging,
Friendship is the key!
Oh, many miles keep us apart,
Yet we are close in our hearts,
Encouraging, Cheering, Believing,
Amazing what a little poetry can start!
Oh, keep up the great fun!
Don't let our thread ever be done!
Sharing, Imagining, Rhyming,
Come on EVERYONE!
Swimmy :)
