The meaning of swimming

(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.) I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense. What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

We just need to compile all of our stuff into a book and publish it! (Or maybe just make sure the thread doesn't die so that we can always have new stuff!!) ~Kyra

I LOVED Lap Lane! I feel the same way about Lane 5! Lane five will always have that special place in my heart. We ought to have the "Swimmy Awards", Y'know, like the Emmies or the Grammies. and the "Swimmy" (not to be confused with our friend, Swimmy) award goes to... :p
  • Oh, the pool staffs do great work, The lifeguards, managers, and desk clerks, Greeting, Watching, Chlorinating, The cute ones are an added perk. Oh, let me tell you! One is so fine! Day after day I swim above the blue line, Mesmerizing, Daydreaming, Sighing, Wishing he was mine! Oh, Mr. Lifeguard, look over here! Lap after lap I swim far and near, Gliding, Turning, Floating, My heart you fill with cheer! Swimmy :p
  • Love your poem, Seagurl! I play lap the geezers too! Thanks for the laugh! Glad you all like my Ode to my lifeguard. Swimmy :)

YAY SWIMMY!!! I always love a female swimmer in uniform. THEY'RE SO CUTE!!! I must confess that even though I am a major geek, I am also not averse to seeing a female swimmer in her sleek little swim suite.....I also do NOT wear speedos to be as respectful to everyone else as I can!....If I were someone else (like Sabir for example) maybe I would....but for the sake of all (especially those of the feminine persuation), I wear swim trunks instead. newmastersswimmer p.s. Love the new poems y'all!!....keep up the awesome work!....Maybe I will even try to throw another poem in the mix?? One poem for every 6 or 10 poems by each of Seagurl and Swimmy would still be a fast pace for an old codger like me!

Swimming in my favorite lane All by my self in the pool No else to make some waves That is very cool When suddenly someone jumps in The lifeguard has no clue That if you try and swim next to me I am gonna race you! Racing old ladies I go flying by Racing them without their knowing I couldn't tell you why Swimming in my favorite lane All by my self in the pool But if you try and swim next to me I am gonna race you!! ~Kyra
