Dropped my time by 6.66s to 3:34.22 but more importantly it felt good all the way to the end. I think the biggest difference was that I was breathing every stroke from the start so I wasn't in a state of oxygen deprivation induced panic all the way through the second hundred. Now I have to figure out whether to try to speed up my breath-per-stroke style or improve my conditioning to the point where I can get through 200m breathing every second stroke. Much to my surprise there was another guy in my age group swimming the 200 fly! Prior to this there were no 200m fly swims in our age group since they started keeping provincial records. It was probaby good that I didn't notice this before the swim, it would not have helped me stay relaxed, and as it turned out I beat him by a significant margin anyway. A bigger surprise for me was that a few events latter I took 0.01s off my previous PB in the 50 fly, with a 34.92. I expected to die after having done the 200 but I actually felt strong right to the end. The dying part occurred later, at about the 50m point in the 100 fly :-)
