Firebelly - audio training aid, tempo, split, stroke count,

Wondering if anyone here has seen or heard of this? My sister-in-law just sent me this page. Looks like its inventor is just getting things kicked off. Maybe he is here - says he is a Masters swimmer. Looks to be a device that calls out information to you on your turns - stroke count, tempo, split time, distance, etc. I've been trying to find a smart watch that will show me a stopwatch and heart rate at the same time since there aren't sufficient clocks where I swim, but still haven't found one. I might be able to use this device in lieu of a stopwatch, and just have a device to show my heart rate. This also apparently sends info to one's smart phone at the end of the workout. I am really intrigued by this: www.indiegogo.com/.../firebelly-swimming-improved-fitness
  • I have used the Firebelly and it is excellent. If you have no clock or if you have an analog clock, Firebelly can be very effective for you. You can set it to give you your sendoff on any time interval you want. It can give you splits at the 25, 50 or 100 and you can actually hear the times! The voice that tells you the time takes a little getting used to, but once you get an ear for it, it works fine. When swimming intervals it gives you an audio signal with five seconds to go and then you hear a "beep" as you would in a race. Also, it helps you to practice good finishes because you don't have to pop your head up to see the time on the clock. Just keep your head down to the wall and do a proper finish and you will get your time to the one hundredth of a second.
  • You can set it to give you your sendoff on any time interval you want..... Thanks, Glenn! That in and of itself is huge! I am going to have to check out this. Definitely sounds like something I'd love to have.
  • I've been using the Firebelly for about a year now and am extremely impressed. Very easy to use - just slide it under the goggle straps, set the mode you want with the press of a button and you're good to go. Automatically detects your turns to give you splits and total time without having to press any buttons. I especially like it when I'm training on my own as a motivator to push myself. And yes, you can view your times and splits in a smartphone app (connects via Bluetooth). As you may be able to tell, I'm a big fan and I highly recommend it. Haven't found anything else out there that comes close to this.
  • Hi - thanks for your interest in Firebelly! I am a masters swimmer and the inventor of Firebelly. Glenn and vanderk did a great job of explaining the features and benefits. As a swimmer, I really like the split time feedback while I swim. I feel like it has helped me to improve my pacing and it is good motivation. I'm glad to answer any additional questions you might have! Hi, Matt! Was hoping you might be on here. Went ahead and signed up as a backer.

  • Is Shark Tank in your future? :D
  • Hi - thanks for your interest in Firebelly! I am a masters swimmer and the inventor of Firebelly. Any chance there's a future feature for heartrate measurement?

  • Any chance there's a future feature for heartrate measurement? It's not supported in this version of the device, but definitely something to consider for the future. Thanks for expressing your interest, it gives us good ideas for what to pursue next :)
  • A couple of my swimming friends had some ideas for future functionality. For example, number of lane line pulls during backstroke, number of arm strokes taken during a kick set, number of breaths taken off the wall, etc. :) The SNITCH edition, feeds all the cheat-stats mentioned above to the coach's ipad in live time ;)
