Tell me what I'm doing wrong

  • Point your toes. Looks like you're a little deep. Nice tight tuck!
  • Yeah I don't understand why I'm so close to the bottom. Of course, after, I'm trying to get to the top as quick as possible for air!
  • Your flips from back stroke are better because you don't have to get on to your stomach after the flip. On the free flips you are turning over too soon causing you to go off crooked. You should be pushing off on your back. You are not getting your arms locked into streamlined position before the push off, which also causes you to go off crooked.
  • I just looked at your video again and noticed that there aren't lines on the pool bottom, nor crosses on the wall. Personally, I always find it hard to execute a good flip turn when those aren't present. The way vision is distorted with goggles, and being in the water, without lines/crosses I find it hard to judge exactly where the wall is...and therefore when to begin my turn. It's something to get used to I guess, because I find that even when I swim in a new pool with lines/crosses that I'm not accustomed to I still have difficutlty at first. But without the lines/crosses...for me it's difficult anyway. Dan

Your flip turns aren't bad at all; I can't imagine not having the T at the bottom and the cross on the wall to align myself correctly. Anyways if I could make a suggestion, when you plant your feet and push off, keep your body elongated as much as possible and hold it into the streamline. It looks like you are relaxing your entire body when you push off the wall when it should be as tight and streamlined as possible. Reach for the opposite end of the pool! Not just with your hands but your feet too.
