Pressure in my goggles after ~25 min

Hello, I am relatively new to swimming and have been getting into triathlons. I have been starting build up my endurance and working on longer swims. Once I start to get about 25-30 min in, I begin to get lots of pressure on my goggles to the point where I have to stop and re-adjust them. Being new to swimming, I don't know if this is common, if this is a user error, or a problem with the goggles I have. If anyone can shed some light on what might be going on that would be fantastic. Thanks!
  • Yep, Loosen them. If they continually leak after, try a different brand/model. It's just a game of trial and error I have found but one type that fit me TYR stealths.
  • Normal in use. It's ok to take them off every few sets or time period. If they do not leak that is good.
  • Welcome to the Forums! :welcome: Since your question has already been answered above, my I ask if you are a member of Georgia Masters? If so, do you read the Georgia Masters newsletters? If so, I wrote a profile about another Georgia triathlete, Mickey Buono. I write a monthly "Swimmer Profile" feature as well articles geared toward the solo swimmer, which appear periodically. Will you be swimming at the Georgia State Games Open Water Meet at Lake Acworth? If so, I hope to see you there!
  • It's common to newbies, so don't worry. I suspect you just have them tightened too far down. Try loosening them to the point where they leak, then a slight tighten up to seal it. You can do this by just dunking your head under the water to see if they leak before you go swim.

I've solved this by trying different brands/ types of goggles and found that Swedish goggles work best for me. They're also cheap to experiment with. My rule of thumb is to keep them loose to the point where they don't leak when I push off the wall. Then they're good enough for training. During events I tighten them a little, even if it might slightly hurt.
  • I have a goggle set for practice and another for meets only since I keep those tighter.
