Do You "Wash" Your Swimsuit?

Do you wash your swimsuit? I'm talking about putting it in the regular laundry with your other dirty clothes. I don't think I've ever "washed" any of my suits. I feel like it's clean enough coming out of the pool, and then showered in. A couple of years ago I became the sole launderer for my family. We have an in-ground pool and in the summers my work-at-home wife likes to lounge by the pool. But she's a 'bather' and not a fitness swimmer like us. Yet she puts her suits in the laundry. I think it's weird, but it's not a fight I'm going to take on. Just wondering if others wash their swimsuits. Dan
  • I figure there are two ways to identify swimming "amateurs." One, they wash their swimsuits. Two, when not swimming they wear their goggles around their neck rather than on their foreheads.
  • lol - how about letting your towel air dry between practices and not getting a new towel every time you swim? :)
  • lol - how about letting your towel air dry between practices and not getting a new towel every time you swim? :) I'm assuming the amateur move is getting a new towel every time? I've known swimmers who more or less use the same towel for months. I don't endorse this, but I've seen it! :)

I don't endorse this, but I've seen it! :) All I know is that, if I had used a new towel every time I swam as a teenager my mom would have done laundry every day of the week. Now I use my towel for at least 2 practices unless I forget to hang it to dry... Your comment reminds me of some high school guys on my team in the 80's that didn't wash their hair for months. They said their two swims a day counted as showers. They had metallic-looking (kinda' cool but very damaged) hair...
  • I don't see a point in washing a suit that's soaked in a chlorine pool for most of its use. If the chlorine keeps the pool clean, doesn't it do the same for the suit?pools are mostly sterilized, but not exactly clean.:)

  • I pay for a membership that I only use for 7 months, so a new clean ,dry towel is used each time -- unless they run out !!

I am a lover of luxury showers, or at least as good as I can have in a HS or Community shower. I always take a fluffy, soft, fresh towel to practice to dry w/afterwards. I also use super good smelling bath products (Lush, or Whole Foods soap) and take lingering, relaxing warm showers. I'm even willing to fight for the stall with the strongest water flow. Seriously, I usually go straight to work after swimming and try to use the shower as a wind-down and pamper time. I know people make fun of me and my long showers, but they keep me happy and sane to deal with the 275 students I see per day.
  • I never know what people mean when they say, "season," on here. I swim year-round, but don't swim in meets, so there really aren't any seasons (other than the normal winter, spring, summer, and fall). I swim year round and consider the year to be broken into two seasons--the fall/spring season and the summer season. I generally don't compete during the summer (although I did long course nationals the past two years since 2014 was local and 2015 was by my parents), so I do all my training with the focus being short course nationals. Can't speak for anyone else, but that's what I mean when I speak of seasons.
  • 10008 My car was starting to smell so I created a drying rack out of PVC pipe that's perfect for hanging my suit (over the floorboard where it drips into the dub where I keep my toys), and my towel. Now the car just has the wonderful smell of chlorine, rather than chlorine and mildew. :)
