super streamline

Some time ago ande posted a video of a 25 SCY streamline from a push. It got picked up by swimswam recently. (congrats ande!) swimswam.com/.../ Well it's been seen and raised. swimswam.com/.../ Edit: Wait, I just watched it again, that looks like it is from a dive to me. ande is still champion in my book!
  • That's cool! Nicely done, Ande. I'm going to give that a shot and see how far I make it.
  • Nice job, Ande, but can we get people to stop recording videos in portrait orientation?!!
  • The most impressive thing is he swam 25 yards unassisted, completely motionless.
  • That's incredible. I don't know if I could hold my breath that long.
  • Maryland has had the diving version of the plunge at several of their meets I've been to this season. Had a terrible one at the last meet I went to, but I got a solid 23 yards from a dive in November. Might have been able to make it the full 25 yards, but I ran into the lane rope towards the end and started laughing, losing all my air in the process. Still, that's from a dive! The best I've ever done from a push was somewhere around 16 yards or so, although I didn't have the benefit of a deep pool like Ande did. Gotta try that in the diving well now...
  • In the original Olympic event the distance was measured to the spot where the head broke the water surface. We do this all the time at the beginning of practice. To stay under longer you keep having to let out more and more air. The bigger (I.e. more mass) you are the farther you can go.
  • Thanks, it was fun. My wife filmed it and should have filmed from a landscape perspective. That day I wanted to film it then leave. The woman to the left of the wall on deck is a friend of ours and we were going to go see some music. Soon I hope to do a 25 from a dive. Plus I have a pretty cool long course trick that I hope to film and youtube soon. But the pool won't be set up LCM till aver NCAAs. I shared the video with them because they featured a guy swimming a 50 backwards. Some time ago ande posted a video of a 25 SCY streamline from a push. It got picked up by swimswam recently. I imagine in the early days, if plunges were done in lakes or ponds with murky water. I wonder if plungers snuck in a few sculls or kicks in the dark depths.
