How fast do you kick compared to swimming?
This is prompted by a set in pwb's High Volume Workouts where a kicking interval/100 was 20 seconds more than normal swimming interval.
The question: What is the spread between your challenge interval for 5x100 swimming and 5x100 kicking?
In my case, I can kick fly on an interval 40 seconds slower than the fastest interval I can make for 5x100 swimming. Free kick is 10 seconds slower (slower than fly kicking).

So you could do 100s kick w/ a board (no fins) @ ~1:35 interval, say 10 reps? Amazing. :bow:
As for an interval for me, I can't make them with success unless I'm on a 1:45-1:50 interval (coming in around 1:41-1:42 and working it). Dolphin kick w/ a board - no way...it just doesn't work for me.
Interesting. I'm way faster @ dolphin with a board than free kick.
I can swim 5x100 on 1:10 no problem, I can't make 5x100 kick on 2:00, I don't think. Probably a full minute for me.
Can you do 30x100 on 1:10 yet? If you can swim 5 on 1:10, you ought to be able to get close to 1:30-1:35 without fins. How stiff are your ankles?

This will obviously depend on whether you are kick-heavy or pull-heavy. Most swimmers are pull-heavy (which makes sense because the legs are less oxygen-efficient). That being said, the best swimmers have a healthy balance of each - so I recommend that you work on your kick if you are pull-strong and your pull if you are kick-strong.
I am kick-heavy.
My best 100 yd kick is about 9 seconds slower than my best 100 yd swim (in practice).
For 5x100s, I would say the spread interval would probably be somewhere in the 10-15 second slower-for-kick range.

Our coached mentioned getting some cheapo canvas shoes for this...I'm still waiting to see if he actually is going to have us do it. Until then, I'll save my money.
Yards most days I can make 5 x 100 fr on 1:05 and ave 1:03 or 4 if it's a straight 500 and a good day
Pretty sure I can kick 5 x 100 fly with no board on 1:15 and
probably 1:20 for flutter with a board

Jackson Wilcox and Garrett WG made 30 x 100 k on 1:15
Jackson made 10 x 100 on 1:10 & garrett did 6 or 7
LCM is more like 5 x 1 on 1:15 and I can probably kick
5 x 100 on 1:30 fly with no board and 5 x 1 flutter with board on 1:35 or 40
