  • Brent Hayden went 48.53 tonight. No one else went under 49 so I'm not really fearing the relay from the north at this point. Hayden might make the podium in the individual event though - I think he's got plenty more speed.

He had to get under 48.8, I think, to lock his slot; I suspect he's got A LOT more speed. On a similar note, I suspect Brittney McLean will be gunning for something much faster tomorrow night in the 800.
  • Podium yes, but faster than Magnussen? No, but still a Top 8 contender. I'm rooting for Jennifer Beckberger in the 100 FR today. She's an ASU alum who coached my team before heading back to Canada to train for the trials. We met Jenn in the stands yesterday and she was very nice to my daughter (she noticed her Scottsdale Aquatic Club t-shirt and struck up a conversation). We cheered her on this morning, but she ended up the 9th Canadian and won't be in the A final (0.08 between her and 8th). She still has the 50 tomorrow, so we'll root her on again.
  • This is just from my Blackberry, but not a bad shot looking towards the start end. Any swimmer who makes the team signs their name on the faux London bus behind the blocks. forums.usms.org/picture.php
  • Podium yes, but faster than Magnussen? Hayden seemed to get no boost at all from the suits in 2008, when he could have won the 100. That's the best anti-suits argument I can imagine: the suits cost poor Canada and their nice guy (I'm assuming he's nice; he's Canadian) a gold medal. I don't think anyone is faster than Magnussen in the 100. But it will sure be fun to find out!
