The details of my work are found on my personal site: gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/
Very impressive, Gordon! I was interested to see your praise for the Swimsense. I've seen ads for it, but until now haven't heard any first hand reviews.
I was looking at Go The Distance and there are people who have swum 50-60 miles in the first 11 days of the year. I'm curious what they are doing.
I guess 8K a day keeps the doctor away; I can't keep up with that, but I imagine it's doable if you put in doubles and swim 4-5000 yards per workout.

If my goal was purely distance I think I'd choose to do one really long workout rather than doubles. 8K per workout is doable if you're doing primarily long, easy distance. You can do 4,000 yards in an hour if you hold an average pace of 1:30 per hundred. Probably not real exciting, but doable!
He states that his yardage is 20% warmup, 20% kicking, 20% sprint sets, and the remainder on interval training.Thats interesting, I thought the sprinter's scheme was more like 30% smacking oneself, 30% adjusting goggles, 30% resting, and another 30% trying to do math
When you visit your FLOG, there is a Preferences link in the "In This Section" box located at the upper left of the page. When clicking the link, you are provided several options, two of which are:
Allow anyone to view my workout logs
Allow anyone to view my fitness measurements (e.g. my weight log)
Are they not working?
I assumed most high mileage people were open water specialists, particularly someone training for a big one (like ggridley's program).
On the other hand, Rowdy Gaines trains 8000 yards a day which would take him to ~1650 miles/year.

You forgot the 30% talking about how intense 12.5's on 3 minutes can be.
Man the haters are out in force today.
When aren’t they? Saint Swithun Day?
Think of it this way: Sprinters are just Distance swimmers with personalities. We just work harder for less time so we can enjoy the social aspect...:DI think us distance folks are just more frugal. For my $4 event entry fee at nationals I can swim my 1650 Free which works out to $13.20/hour, while your 50 Free works out to around $120/hour.
