  • As expected from looking at the event rankings database, I missed the #10 spot in the 200 fly by .06 seconds. That was my "head case" race back in April. If I hadn't had my head up my :censor: I would have made the top ten. This is part of why I'm focusing on SCM and LCM for the next year (at least)...

At least our little gridge from PNA Champs 200 fly + 200 back + 400 IM didn't have anything to do with your 11th place. That makes me feel better. :)

  • Our gridge was one of the things that got me through that race. It helped me focus at a time when my head was all but detached! :help: If it makes you feel any better, I swam my 200 Fly very poorly at USMS Nats, and missed the Top Ten as well. :bouncing: It's a good thing I got it on YouTube...that way everyone can see the big piano fall!!!
  • Those times are too fast, where is the mortal mens' top ten list? There are two of them - SCM and LCM!
  • I found the following sequence kind of intriguing (these are based on the 10th times in the men's 40-44 age group, for anyone who doesn't know): event 2010 2011 delta 50 free 21.83 22.24 +0.41 100 free 47.98 49.12 +1.14 200 free 1.47.53 1.50.79 +3.26 500 free 4.56.52 5.09.96 +13.44 1000 free 10.45.64 10.50.86 +5.22 1650 free 18.26.46 18.27.70 +1.24 The 500 free seems like an outlier, but I wonder about the general trend of increasing with distance (which seems intuitive) but then decreasing? I might have expected that in relative terms -- delta expressed as a percentage of time -- but absolute terms? Is it just this age-group/gender? (Don't really have time to check others right now but maybe later...) Maybe distance folk are just tougher than the rest of us.
  • The 500 free seems like an outlier, but I wonder about the general trend of increasing with distance (which seems intuitive) but then decreasing? It's even more interesting when you consider Grant Hackett's 1500 free record is the only "pre suit" record left standing. Certainly doesn't "prove" anything, but it is interesting.
  • It's even more interesting when you consider Grant Hackett's 1500 free record is the only "pre suit" record left standing. Certainly doesn't "prove" anything, but it is interesting. Not sure why, but Kate Ziegler's 1500 free record always gets forgotten in this type of discussion. She set the record in 2007, well before the shiny suits. www.fina.org/.../index.php
  • Not sure why, but Kate Ziegler's 1500 free record always gets forgotten in this type of discussion. Sorry, I was only thinking about the men's records. You're right, though, I think Ziegler's swim was in a suit that is currently legal.
  • Sorry, I was only thinking about the men's records. You're right, though, I think Ziegler's swim was in a suit that is currently legal. Actually the suit was ankle-length, so it's not currently legal, but it was textile material. ‪Kate Ziegler World Record 1500M Freestyle 15:42.54!‬‏ - YouTube
