Budapest 2017

Does anybody know when the dates for the Masters World Championships at Budapest will be announced?
  • Hi Mary, Reach out to me at jkyff@optonline.net. I'm assembling a FINA Worlds email in the next day to all the swimmers I know and coaches.
  • Does anyone know what will happen when we arrive? My first event will be the open water swim and I'm not sure where I'm suppose to go. I'm going to email them in the next day but I was wondering is the new pool home base for the event?

I'm betting that will be at the new pool, but I imagine we will hear more from the meet organizers once the entries have closed. I imagine you know that the open water venue is Lake Balaton in the town of BALATONFÜRED. This is 135 km (1 hour 30 min drive by car), southwest of Budapest.
  • If there have been no changes, I received the following message from Katalin Sass, the Competition Director for the FINA World Masters Championship in January: "There will be two pools in Dagály Aquatics Arena, for 25-54 years old competitors, and will be two pools on Margaret island The Hajós Alfred Complex, for 55-100 years old competitors. So there will be four pools in all for the events. Identical events will be going on in all pools." The USMS Coaching Staff will be splitting duties, and one representative should be at all facilities at all times throughout the competition. All four coaches should be on-deck during the warm-up periods. Additionally, there should be someone there for the open water competition and the open water technical meetings. Good luck in Budapest!

Just was curious where I had to go for registration when I arrive, the shuttle for this event etc..... I'll let you know if I find anything out.
  • Relays must be entered and paid for online before the deadline and then verified at the venue before the separate deadline. No, relays cannot be entered as a country. The relay members must all be from the same USMS registered club. bummer. but thanks for the reply
  • I imagine you know that the open water venue is Lake Balaton in the town of BALATONFÜRED. This is 135 km (1 hour 30 min drive by car), southwest of Budapest. in Ricconni you could use your bus pass to get to the openwater...it was just a few stops down the main road in the adriadic sea in Montreal it was also a short bus ride to the venue (olympic rowing basin) for the openwater in Medelin - PanAm's 2015 - it was actually in Guatape and was 2hrs by bus. we had motorcycle police escort us both ways from Medelin to Guatape and back. 1st wave of busses was for 1st wave of swimmers/spectators and 2nd set of busses for 2nd wave of swimmers/spectators. it was actually very well planned out. i can give lots of tips, but if you want to be in the "medal" wave at worlds...enter with a impossibly fast time. as an example there were 5 in my age group that entered in 30:00 for a 3000m openwater. i entered in a respectible time and didnt make the top 50 wave cut. i tried to appeal being moved to the top50 after placing 3rd in the 800m and was flat out told NO! like i said, i can give lots of info on what to plan for and what to avoid. ultimately you have to chose: 1) are you going there to swim fast or 2) are you going there to have fun it's an exclusive OR steve
  • I am going to Budapest I am also in the open water and hope there will be transportation there!!!
  • Just an FYI: Information I received back regarding the OWS: OPEN WATER SWIM INFO: When I arrive in Hungary were do I go to pick up my registration materials for the competition? There will be two accreditation centres, one in Budapest at Danube Arena and one in Balatonfüred. It is suggested that you go to the Danube Arena as you arrive, because from the moment you collect the card, you are able to enjoy the list of advantages the accreditation gives you. Also, I’m swimming the open water race will there be a shuttle? How will we get to the venue? If you arrive to Budapest prior the open water swimming events – you will have to collect your accreditation because it will give you the benefit of free use of the return train to the open water swimming venue. Where will the shuttle be? This train will take you from Déli Pályaudvar (this is the name of the train station in Budapest) to Balatonfüred and back. Hereunder you can find the link of the location of the station. www.google.hu/.../data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x4741dc20eecaeeeb:0x66e96b3418f0661d!8m2!3d47.5003076!4d19.0245789 Is there a schedule for the shuttle? The schedule is the same for each competition days (10,11,12. August): Departures (Budapest, Déli-palyaudvar): 7:05am, 9:05am Arrivals (Balatonfured): 8:55am, 10:55am Departures (Balatonfured): 6:23pm, 8:23pm Arrivals (Budapest, Déli-palyaudvar): 8:34pm, 10:29pm
  • I looked around the FINA website yesterday and tried to find the qualifying times. Does anyone have a link or a schedule of the times needed? Thanks in advance! Rob
