2015 Long Course Nationals - Spire Institute

I've been watching and waiting for information regarding Long Course Nationals - particularly hotel information. I finally found a link on the Spire site to USMS hotels. As I began the process, I found this curious statement: This is a "Stay to Play" tournament. All teams are required to reserve a hotel room block through Traveling Teams in order to participate in the tournament. Does this mean that individuals are prohibited from booking their own rooms? Due to the lack of information, many of us have already booked rooms that meet our personal needs. Can someone clarify?
  • Just signed up this morning! I was going to wait until after the Tualatin Hills LCM meet on June 6th, to see if I get a better seed time in the 400 IM and 200 fly, but I couldn't stand it any longer :D And thanks for the tips on what to do while there, Elaine!
  • Despite my family not wanting to travel to the mid west for a swimcation I just signed up and found room at the holiday inn express. My wife is from the Midwest and try as I could, I could not get her to do a summer swim trip. I don't understand her choice of a beach vacation over the Spire Institute? Go figure non swimmers!!!! :afraid: .......and I suspect if she reads this I will be in trouble for even bringing this up again!

Enjoy the trip and have a great meet. Say hi to Arnie and I genuinely hope "You'll be back".
  • I genuinely hope "You'll be back". He'll be back...with diarrhea. Columbia Unruh? You are adventurous. I can't imagine anyone with the coin, the will, and the cast iron stomach that will be required to go to and survive either Russia or Columbia. Good luck.
  • I am at the national coaching clinic in Nashville this weekend and we have some questions from the coaches regarding hotels for the meet this summer at Spire. I guess the local hotels have been sold out since March, and now the closest rooms available are 45 minutes away. Do you have any recommendations for these coaches to find lodging closer? If so can we post this information in the website? Thanks in advance.
  • I called the Sleep Inn (6 miles away) and told them I was coming to the USMS nationals at the spire Inst. and I was able to book a room? I don't think they're all booked yet.

Try the hotels again, individually by phone.Evidently Spire had reserved blocks of rooms, but they were only open for us to get starting in late May. All I know is that I called Spire and they said they were sure the hotels had rooms and to call the hotels.I called Sleep Inn and told them what Spire said and they said"are you with USMS" I said yes and they said they had a block of rooms, but the contract wasn't complete, call back in a few days.I did and got a room. This was in late May.

  • Hotel and Air B&B selection is sparse. Are there any dorms (college campus) near the pool? Maybe they could set up temporary shelters as I don't feel like driving 24 miles to the nearest available hotel. Prices are steep too.
