Looking ahead to 2012, they have posters here in Sweden about the next FINA Masters to be held in Riccione, Italy. I went there when they held it in 2004 and had a great time. The dates are June 2-16, 2012.
is the 3k OW being held on 2 different days because the entries are so large? or why?
any idea how its being split up?
also we hear about how many are going but the size is beyond the scope of what can finish in a day. usms nationals was 1800 and ran 20 lanes at a time, started at 8am and finished at 4pm (usually). 6000+ swimmers would mean use of the pools 24hrs in a row. simply not possible.

There are fewer events per day, spreading them out over a week so that will help. But you are right, there will be some very long days. I think Wednesday will be particularly brutal, with 4 events (the other days have 1-3).
Worlds at Stanford had 3000 swimmers with the same event schedule and I recall them lasting much of the day.
Pre-Meet practices in Riccione.
I know the pool is open for training on June 7,8, 9.
I will arrive early and would like to swim on June 4,5,6 or at least one of these days. Does anyone know if the pool complex is open to the public or if there is another pool?
Just curious... they seemed to have combined the Open Water swim entrants with all of the other entrants when counting the number of attendees. I am sure there are some who have only entered the Open, but i would guess that most, like myself, are entered in both "Swimming" and "Open Water." This gives a false impression of the number of people actually attending the meet. If all Open Water swimmers are also pool swimmers then that takes about 2,000 off of the total number of entrants. Still, there are a lot of people going.
there is a 50m pool in san marino 15km away from riccione or a 25m pool in cattolica easy to get ther by train or bus
ow will be held on sat for age groups from 25 to 44 and on sun for older swimmers check the news section on the official website
on the facebook page you can find all the numbers (total for swimming waterpolo etc athletes dividee by country and continent
total is 12192!
DUE TO THE HUGE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS AT THE OPEN WATER EVENT, THE FINA MASTER COMMITTEE AND THE O.C. DECIDED, FOR SAFETY REASONS, TO SPLIT THE RACE IN TWO DAYS, SATURDAY 16th AND SUNDAY 17th JUNE.
