Looking ahead to 2012, they have posters here in Sweden about the next FINA Masters to be held in Riccione, Italy. I went there when they held it in 2004 and had a great time. The dates are June 2-16, 2012.
Hey quick question about this meet everyone:
I am thinking of joining the Masters program and getting back in the water after 5+ years away from swimming. I am looking at this meet as a great goal in June...however, I have some questions about meet entry.
Does anyone know if you need to officially qualify for the cuts in a Masters meet prior to entry? Or is the entry just done on a good faith basis? ie. anyone who has the money and feels they can make the cuts enters the meet.
Maybe someone who is involved with the Masters, this meet, or who has participated in past World meets can help me out here?
Thanks!
Mary, since you went in 2004, I'm going for the first time. Best airline? Fly to Rome? Transport to Riccone...train...car? The events appear to be best for my schedule on every other day...I like it.
In 2004 we flew into Milan and out of Venice. We took the train from Milan to Riccione and took a tour bus from Riccione to Venice. We stayed in Venice several days after the meet and then took a cruise to Greece and back to Venice.
This year we want to spend more time in Rome, so we will probably fly in and out of Rome and take the train to Riccione.
The train system is good and isn't too difficult to figure out.

Hi everyone!
I hope you'll indulge a synchronized swimmer for a moment;)
I'm trying to work out logistics for our group in Riccione this summer and have no idea how to get our team from the hotel to the pool.
Apparently, the shuttle is only for people who booked the hotel through the website which we couldn't do because our group is too large. One of our coaches just had heart surgery so she can't really hike the mile from the city bus stop to the pool every day, twice a day.
I'm so open to suggestions. I know we're not the only ones who fell into this trap. Maybe we can help them, too.
We just opened a new "international events" section in English on the Italian Master Swimmers' forum. There is also a wide workout library, events and non swimming related section (in Italian). come and see! www.mondomaster.it
a few numbers: 12.500 athletes, 9.000 just for swimming syncro and diving, 2.000 OW 104 water polo teams
This will be a huge meet. Any idea how many for swimming alone, without synchro and diving?
