Looking ahead to 2012, they have posters here in Sweden about the next FINA Masters to be held in Riccione, Italy. I went there when they held it in 2004 and had a great time. The dates are June 2-16, 2012.
That's a horrible time for me to go to Italy.
The Olympic Trials start nine days after worlds, and I will be working for eight days straight in Omaha. Then, I am planning on swimming in the long course Masters nationals after that in the Omaha pool. With this schedule, I bet there will be very few Americans attending the 2012 meet. Not to mention that a lot of Europeans might be saving their own dough for a trip to the Olympics.
Mary's dates are correct: I have their marketing material in hand with the date June 2-16.
Everything is not quite finalized yet and it must be approved by FINA which is supposed to happen in late December of this year.
So, I suppose the dates could get adjusted.
June is the best month to hold worlds in Riccione. july and august are inundated with italian tourists on holiday and there would be no rooms.
Also it is not blistering hot. I was there in 2004 and had a wonderfull time even if i worked as well while there. I also had access to a 25 m pool in a hotel ( my friends own it) 2 towns away in Gabicce Mare.
Surely that can't be right. Even Europeans, with 8 weeks of paid vacation each year, have kids in school, etc.
If i remember correctly from 2004, the pool events were like thurs, fri,sat. sunday. they were held june 3rd-13th. 2004

According to my math, here's the final medal count for USMS Swimmers at Worlds:
1st Place: 34
2nd Place: 31
3rd Place: 26
4-10th: 196
Total Medals: 287 Medals!
Along the way, American swimmers set 8 World Records and 16 Championship Records.
From what I could tell, even those who didn't medal had some great swims and lots of time improvement.
For me, it was a great week, and I really enjoyed meeting everyone!

Seems like in Sweden they said something about holding it early to give as much time as possible between in and the Olympics, my impression was that they wanted the time for the officials.
The 2004 World Championship was in June in Italy. The attendance was very good. My family and I loved the town and are looking forward to going again. It will be a busy summer. I am starting to save now.
