First Lactic / Dive set of this season + my list of excuses:
List of excuses:
- Lifting Heavy which just kills my swimming
- First time in 2 1/2 month going off the blocks
- Sunday early in the morning is not an ideal time to swim fast - it's pretty much the first workout before noon all season.
- no fast skin - just old skin
- did I mention that the lifting makes me tired
Set = all on 6-7 minutes - yards - from a dive (not a rolling start like Ande)
150 - descend each 50 - 1:22.0
100 - all-out 50.2
100 - all-out 50.2
50 - 23.0
50 - 22.7
Well - my stroke is all over the place, trying to change my turns to add underwaters which did not work at all, I have little to no speed and I am hoping to swim the yards time of today in meters 10 weeks from now.
Nothing like a little reality check ...

I know what you mean...I hate when the coach announces a test set the morning after I lift hard at night.
Sometimes I think a main point of lifting is not to get stronger but just to make us swim through the pain of such sets. "Regular" (ie rested) racing can feel pretty darn easy by comparison.
Good luck.
Don't want anybody to feel sorry ... and the time is really only important as it relates to the best time. Going 5 seconds slower than your best is not terrible, but for a Freestyler it's also not very good.
I posted the workout, because there is no better way of knowing where you are at -- you put in a block, you have a timer and you do 3-5 all out swims.
Well, be glad, I just came back after 15 years and would be THRILLED if I came within 10 seconds of my best 100 free! :D
I clearly remember all those lactic acid sets. Even though I was a distance swimmer we still did them from time to time. It was usually 8 x 200's for us though on like 10 minutes or something. The Sprinters got the shorter stuff.

Thanks for posting. It looks pretty impressive even though you're not 100%.
In a way it's interesting to see how times can vary from the early part of each season until taper time.

How often do you do this set Eric?
