Well, my kids are now in swimming lessons and I knew I was in trouble the minute I stepped into the pool! I had to get a membership at a gym with a pool and I am back in the water...it feels like home:)
Any suggestions for workouts? I am shocked at how slow I am, I have been working out still just not in the water. It looks like endurance is the biggest issue. My lung capacity is not what it used to be. Ah, I can't wait for my water babies to be trailing me in laps!

Thank you, Katie, for the warm welcome!
Today I somehow managed to cut 2 seconds off each 25 yds. My workout was shorter bc I did not eat and I just went to exhaustion. However, I did get some bars to eat before I get the kid to school so there will be something in me when I start the day. My breathing was better today and I have a call out to my doc for a new inhaler so I should be good there untill I get my lungs back to water breathing.
WOW, you did 4 days already this week?! That is awesome! I need to lose a little weight as well and it helps to have an activity that is enjoyable. How do I find a Master's Program where I live?
Hey there
Sounds like you are doing great. My first 3 swims I did not eat either ( I swim at 5:30 am) and it was tough. I also got a muscle cramp in my right calf. So I was told to eat either a good fibre granola type bar or a banana. I eat a banana if I have them. I swam so much better with something in stomach. So live and learn. I find I am still struggling a bit after the swim so I have been told to try chocolate milk. I have not done that yet.
I live in Ontario Canada. I knew there was a masters program in my area so I contacted them. I would just look up for a swim team in your area check out its website and see if it has a masters program. I am also assuming that there is a link to all the masters programs or clubs somewhere. There is on our Canadian website. I really really like the workouts. I got my fins Tues and used them in practice yesterday and today. I need to get some hand paddles and I ordered better goggles. I did not know we needed so much stuff. BUT it is fun.
Yes I am hoping for some weightloss. I am up 25 to 30 pounds ( I had thyroid cancer) and it is hard to get off. This should help. I know I will lose inches as I am swimming 70 mns 4 times a week. I am in the slower lane but even the slow swimmers are pretty good so it is a great workout. I am so out of it that things have changed and I need the help. Every Tuesday morning is technique and drills so that is a must be at practice.
Anyway I am sure you will find something in your area.
Good luck and keep in touch
Katie
I will keep in touch! Thank you for all the information and it sounds like you are doing great as well. Seventy minutes would be quite a workout for me but in a couple of weeks I might be up to 60 minutes. We will see.
Hey there and welcome. Yeah another newcomer LOL. I just started on the 7th of September back in the water after 22 years ( give or take a year). It is tough but wonderful. I joined a Masters program as there is no way I could figure out what to do each time I swam. I love having someone else telling me what to do, set up the program and then help me. As of today I swam 4 times this week :woot:. I have the sore muscles and tired body to prove it. But you know I am pretty proud of myself.
I to am surprised at how slow I am swimming ( though I did better than I thought I would)
I am hoping to continue with this, improve my swimming, my fitness lose a few pounds and meet some new friends.
Congrats on getting back into the water. The first day back is the hardest

Hi! I'm a "newcomer", hitting the pool after about 4yrs of hit and miss trys. Momma of 2 girls over here, 4y/o and 7mo old so i've had my hands full trying to get time to fit in the pool time. Wednesday 9-26 was my first day back and I'm still going strong. I must admit I was super sore the following day, but i'm feeling great now! I've finally accepted that I'm addicted to the smell of chlorine. I swam in college and joined a master's swim team following but found motherhood shortly after college. I also did a little coaching a YMCA swim team for a while in college. I'm planning on joining a master's swim team/club (whatever they are called out here) again cause I know I'm gonna need the accountability. Doing workouts is no problem but i'm always open to suggestions and changing the variety up. Got any good ones out there?
My plan isn't really for competitive, more so for fitness. Swimming is a great workout and I did lose alot of weight in college while swimming so much....or could it be that it was coupled with late study nights and not enough time to eat. I was in nursing school after all.

Hey Melissa and welcome. It is nice to have some other people starting at about the same time.
I also have 2 girls they are 12 and 13 ( though the oldest will be 14 next week) they are wonderful. It is because they are older that I am finally able to get back into the pool.
It is 4 weeks tomorrow that I started. I am not near as tired as I used to be. I do well with the really short drills but when we swim a 400 or 600 free I find I am tired and dont have the endurance I should. Though it is pretty good.
I can tell I am losing inches but not a ton of weight. I am hoping by summer I am way down. Eating has to change to. We were away at a wedding last weekend, this weekend is our Canadian Thanksgiving and then that is it. No more excuses. Clean eating and exercise should help
Today we used the fins and hand paddles for some of our practice. Boy my arms are sore.
I am very glad I joined the Masters program in my area. I love swimming with other people and having a coach set out the practice. He is very good and always walking the deck and helping out.
Anyway I just thought I would say hi. Congrats on getting back to it
