I just started swimming last Friday after 22 years off. I have swam 4 times:applaud:and am pretty happy with myself. I obviously have a long way to go.
How many times a week do you need to swim to improve indurance, skill and lose inches and weight.
My goal is 4 times a week

I imagine there are many more factors that influence how often a masters swimmer will get in the pool than an age grouper. I try swimming every other day, though I adjust that based on what my body is telling me, family and work obligations and other personal activities (cycling, working on cars, etc). I would imagine that if you're coming back to swimming after a long layoff four days a week is plenty, especially if you have some other activity (running, cycling, walking the dog) some of your off days.
Above all, listen to what your body is telling you and don't overdo it.

6 days a week with 4 of them double sessions. Had to build up to this over time. Started at 4 times a week, then 6 times a week and finally reached what I am doing now. This was a progression over 3 years.
I swim 6 or 7 days a week because I will congeal if I don't.
For "cathlauer," the goals might be met by a combination of activities, and this is where a coach can help you. Endurance is not simply slogging through x minutes or yards in the pool x times a week. The slog is better than not, but intervals tailored to where you are now will help more. Similarly, losing inches and pounds might be achieved faster with some work in the weight room, or by adding a step class, speed walking, or other kind of workout on nonswimming days. So there are multiple dimensions, and multiple goals.
For now, I would simply try to find x days a week to which I could commit myself, and try to find some enjoyment in the activity so I would be sure to come back next time. Keeping a swim diary helps.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone
WOW some of you sure swim a lot. I am not there yet. I hope to committ to 4 times a week until May. I am lucky as I have a gym at work so I do get in there to do some cardio and I love weights. I have some great muscle definition under the flab.
Today is Saturday. I went for 5 kilometer bike ride. It was very cold and very very windy so I was out of breath. I will go for a bike ride tomorrow to.
I am excited about it all. Though some of my co-workers and friends think I am crazy. HMMMMMMMM they are overweight, smoke and just dont get it. I am 41 and I have the capabilities of being a pretty good swimmer and I want to get into shape and do something for myself so this is it.
I had thyroid cancer and just want to get healthy.
I am no where near ready to committ to some of your schedules but it is going to be fun to watch you all meet your goals.
Thanks again for all the info
