So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:

I'm new to Masters swimming. Started swimming on my own back in the fall, since it's easier on the joints and my pocketbook than my previous sport, figure skating.
Took an Adult Learn to Swim class to improve my stroke and that's where I learned about rotary breathing.
That is wonderful news, swimming 100m without being winded and how cool you're new to the sport! I know a lot of people who didn't start to swim until their 50s or later and their enthusiasm is contagious.
And fwiw, though I swam in high school and college I took 33 years off and didn't return until last fall. I feel very much like a new person most days because things have changed a lot in all four strokes. Feeling like a total beginner again is to me a huge blessing. I get to learn new things, have fun, and enjoy it a lot more than I usually did when I was younger.
I just got back in the water on Monday after a 2-weekish hiatus (10 days of being very, very sick, during which I swam my personal best 500 at 11m38s the morning after a 24hr and spent the entire remainder of the day in bed, following by a week of vacationing in Maryland/DC and being too busy with zoos and museums and good food to think of swimming) and was feeling pretty good. I swap between SCM and SCY because the SCM is near my house, but the SCY is on the way home from work. Gets a bit weird, but I had a good SCM workout on Monday and was feeling good this morning, set up to time my 500, zoomed right the hell along, got to the end and - the start button on my watch didn't work. :bitching::badday: uggh I want to say it was faster than 11m38s, but I have no idea. But either way, it's a good start to getting back in and not falling behind on my GTD results. Now my task is to find some open water and preferably a buddy to go with before the Amesbury swim - I confess, I'm too nervous to go all alone to unattended water. I know how quickly even good swimmers can get into trouble. Maybe a buddy would get me to swim faster, too. :laugh2:
I'm thrilled with my new 800m PR today - 14:02. I swam the first half in 7:05, and the second half in 6:57. That 6:57 is faster than the 400m I swam at the damn Meet recently. :)
I'm sure most wouldn't call this happy, but I finished a tough failure set today. Gave it my all throughout the workout and the last 300m I had absolutely nothing left. I love that feeling of satisfaction.
Swim happy - Back up to 3500y yesterday in my fourth swim back after a month of health issues and losing 30 pounds that I didn't have to lose. I am happy to be back healthy again.
Sounds brutal. Glad you’re back “in the swim of things”. And I’m a complete baby when I get a head cold. I hope you’re gentle with yourself during your come back. Best wishes!

I hadn't actually pushed a 400m since my first meet 3 weeks ago, where I swam 6:58 the very silly way. (Halves of 3:19/3:39.....ouch!!)
But today I swam an evenly paced 6:45. It was a great joy. :)
Way to go, Skuj! You are making excellent progress, and you have a great attitude. Keep it up! :applaud:
