So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:
Success! I finally broke 12 minutes on my 500yd (BS) warmup! A cool 11m51s. My idle goal (in the sense of having a benchmark) has been to meet the state (pool/freshwater) lifeguard qualification, which I thought was 's
I for one am hoping to have improved a bit since last summer. I was swimming with a tri club on a half-mile lake course, doing two loops, but not coming all the way back to shore between loops, so it was a bit short of a full mile. I just barely undershot an hour each week. Lately though, in a 25y pool I'm doing 2000 yds in about 57 minutes. (Age 71 this year.)
You know the funny thing is, I was actually faster (at a greater distance) in the lake last year, where each "lap" is about 270 yards (and about 6.5 equal a mile). Never quite understood why that was, but it does give me hope for the open water swims.
Less than a week gone, and I pulled off 11:38.14 this morning! 😀👍🎉
Unfortunately, because my lizard brain and I disagree on what is "taking it easy" after feeling yesterday like I had an oncoming virus (again???) it means that I've spent much of the day in bed (far more than my usual after-work nap) Hopefully I feel better by tomorrow (work), but might have to restrict myself to going straight home on Wednesday morning instead of my regular stop at the pool. 😭
Way to go Skuj, Swim-Badger, and Sumorunner! I love Masters swimming. So many people doing so many incredible things.
I was traveling recently and managed my first guest/drop-in swim with another Master's team. It was a great experience. Especially knowing there are clubs all over the place & very little excuse not to swim while I'm away from home. :)
I'm new to Masters swimming. Started swimming on my own back in the fall, since it's easier on the joints and my pocketbook than my previous sport, figure skating.
Took an Adult Learn to Swim class to improve my stroke and that's where I learned about rotary breathing.
I changed teams a few weeks ago and it was a good move, even though I miss my old teammates. I’m a lot more satisfied with this coach. Bonus... this pool is LCM right now! I’m so in my happy place.
