So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:
:bouncing::banana::bouncing:
Awww, thanks, King Frog! Hey, off the subject, how is your shoulder recovering from surgery? I hope you have a "happy" to report, even if it isn't a "swim happy." :agree:
Well, I was looking for some PR Peppers in the emojis but I can't seem to find them, so apropos of absolutely nothing... :canada:
Hey, I'll take a Canadian flag any day, JP! Can I borrow it for my backpack when I go to Europe this summer???

Surgery evidently successful. One more week in the sling hopefully. I'm OKd to get in the pool after the sling is off as long as I don't move that arm. No full stroke for 6 months after the surgery. Hopefully I'll be ready to swim at the December meet, but full strength is unlikely before next May(or hopefully next late April at Mesa.)

That's good news! I'm glad the surgery was successful! It looks like you'll be giving your frog legs a good workout for a while. Just think how strong they will be for breaststroke! Perhaps the extra strength you gain will make up for whatever weakness you have when you first start swimming full stroke.
I hope Seal Girl's surgery was a success, too! :cheerleader:

It was. she had less pain after the surgery than she had before. She still has some pain and stiffness at times, but no activity limitations. She can't swim yet either as she also had a skin cancer removed from her leg and must wait for that to heal first.
I don't have the background as a competitive school swimmer. My high school didn't even have a pool. I just swam for cross training on and off since my mid 30s (70 now). Laps at a town park in summer, laps at my former college pool in winter. Sometimes only 400-500 yds, sometimes up to a mile. I was more into track & field or road running for 40-some years.
Then 3 years ago I was told advancing arthritis would put a stop to any impact sports, so swimming it had to be. Last year I found a masters team practice two days a week at a local YMCA, and this summer I joined the local triathlon club so I could swim with them at a lake once a week. I have made it every week but one since June 5th, doing about 2K each time. Two loops of approximately 1000 yd.
My time has improved from 59 to 54 mins for the 2k OWS. I don't know about pool times yet, but the masters team restarts Sep 11 and I very much look forward to it.
Bumping a thread because we could all use more happy.
I've been swimming at the lake on their course (2 laps = roughly 550yds) and finally timed myself for a cool 12:21:60, which isn't going to blister any paint but was nearly two full seconds off my fastest 500yd pool time when I timed it last year.
My endurance is improving. At the lake I could swim a mile (6.3 laps) in an hour, in sets of 2 laps + 1 cool down. (7 total). Hope to be able to swim a mile in one full go by next summer.
Today I decided to try a flip turn for the first time in 20 years and after 20 minutes of working at it, nearly have all the pieces in order. Clumsily, but not too bad for having not done it at all in so long.
I hope to improve my 50 meter/yard times enough to feel comfortable maybe even entering a meet in the coming year.
A shout out to the lifeguard at the pool who took the time to tell me my swimming has much improved over the past few weeks. It's nice to hear from an impartial eye.
Congratulations! :applaud: That must have made your day.
