Swim happy

So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week. Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:
  • Yesterday I went 6:15 for a 500 in the middle of a 6600 yd workout. That is my best time this year. Today I went 4:53 for a 400 yard free (yes, silly distance) at an intramural swim meet (I'm a grad student) and won. The real SWIM HAPPY was that I got my ass kicked in 50s, then exacted revenge in the 400.
  • So to be called a 'flyer' was a big compliment. Especially since I had actually noticed said gentleman during our swim when he was doing fly and thought 'Wow, he's good!'. Now I need to work on increasing my distance so I can join the Butternuts. :D :applaud: Way to go! As for joining the Butternuts, :cheerleader:!
  • After one of my swims last week, an older gentleman was chatting with my husband while he waited for me to come out of the locker room. He said "I noticed your wife is a flyer! She was doing a great job!" I've never been called a flyer before. :) I've had kids in the age group team I swim with comment on my fly before though. Anyway, I taught myself to swim fly a little over a year ago and it has become my favorite stroke. So to be called a 'flyer' was a big compliment. Especially since I had actually noticed said gentleman during our swim when he was doing fly and thought 'Wow, he's good!'. Definitely do Butternuts mlabresh!!!!! My club, The Noblesville Nasti's does this crazy little club. You will love the tee and wear it forever with pride!!!!

You will love the tee and wear it forever with pride!!!! Besides my USMS logo long sleeve t-shirt, this is my other favorite winter t-shirt to wear back and forth to the pool. Every time I put it on, I remember my Butternut swims; especially the first one when my husband was :bitching: :censor:. He thought he would only have to hold the camera for a 200 fly, but I kept going until the camera's card filled up and shut down at 900 yards. :D (He was much more chipper for my 2,000 fly, because I set the camera up on a tripod.:agree:) Anyway, Doug Church and the Nasti squad came up with a great concept for the Butternuts and I am proud to be one of the NUTS. It's a fun goal to shoot for, mlabresh!
  • Thanks! I'm really excited to work toward being a Butternut. I did a 4x50 (technically a 4x60m as it's a longer pool) fly last week and it was HARD. But I was glad that by the 4th repeat, it was actually a little easier. I'm thinking I'll build that until I can do an 8x50 and then start working on 100s. :) Can you get somebody to video your fly, upload it to YouTube, and then post it on The Butterfly Lane? Getting early feedback on your stroke would help cut down the learning curve and improvement time. For me, I may be able to swim a ton of continuous fly, but, it's slow, due to stroke flaws. I have been working on those flaws and had a fly-only coaching session yesterday to try to work out those kinks. (It's a work in progress...) Coaching really helps! If you don't have a coach, The Butterfly Lane would be your next best bet to improving your fly. That Guy, Jaadams, and Swimosaur are three Forumites on that thread who are quite good at helping flyers. :agree:

Dan is a bit of a nut himself and always completes the 500 Free at the state meet doing Butterfly!!!! BTW, the 500 is the last event of a 2 day meet. Dan regularly competes in the 50 / 100 / and 200 Fly plus 6 other events during the 2 day swim marathon, oh a ton of relays too!!!
