Should be fun and offer me some cross training. I also wanted it so my brother can get some exercise and follow me around on competitions and practice swims. We have a family cabin on a local lake (Allatoona) so it only made sense for me to get one.
Got a great deal on a 2008 model ($599)!:applaud:

You'll love it. Kayaking is the closest you can come to swimming without actually getting submersed.
Well I swam about 3500 LCM this morning and then headed to the lake to try out the new toy. Paddled for about 3 hours, even put my son (4-1/2 and about 45 lbs) in the rear storage hatch and paddled him around no problem.
But MAN, my shoulders are worn out now! I'm also about to get blisters on the inside of both thumbs too! :D
Very coool - we have Tarpon (sit on top) 140's, and use them on summer trips to Lake Tahoe, and on nearby lakes as well.
You will really love it! Just be sure to give it an occasional cleaning and coating with this: www.myboatstore.com/aerospaceprotectant.asp

Thanks for the tip! I'll be picking some up!
I'll be keeping stored either on our screened in porch at our cabin on the lake or in my garage, so that should help too.
Sweet! Once I am settled permanently in FL I want to get a kayak for sure, along with paddleboarding it seems to be the best way to see the local wildlife... I have heard from a few people that if you kayak out a mile to the grass flats near the Tampa Skyway Bridge through April-June you can easily see Bull, Lemon, and Blacktip sharks everywhere out there...
I tried paddleboarding recently and loved it too, I'll be doing a lot of paddleboard X-training I think. We paddled a mile out to the channel marker of Siesta Key and we saw two dolphins go right by us. If you head out very early and just sit out there you can see dolphins almost every day.....
So I did another 1hr 45 minutes today out on the lake (after doing weights/core at the gym for 2 hours!). I paddled further than yesterday, probably 5-6 miles. I'm now whipped!
But saw lots of cool wildlife on the lake today. A large school of fish (not sure what, I wasn't quite close enough) feeding on something...shad probably. It was like something you'd see in the ocean. Wild! I'd never seen that on this local lake before. Also so several Ospreys as they have lots of platforms set up around the lake for them and their chicks. Then just tons of fish jumping...for bugs, other fish, whatever.
The trip back to our cabin was a killer as the wind picked up, gusting to 20 MPH, with the scattered showers rolling in. BIG difference paddling into the wind and waves!
