I feel like I am putting myself at risk for many smart aleck comments by even posting that thread title....
I'm wondering if anyone did this Seattle race last year and what you thought. We're thinking it could be a good excuse for our family to visit the NW again, after living there for many years, and wanted to see what the swim was like.
Anyone have any experience?
Thanks.
Ah yes, I thought I remembered ppl swimming it last year (knelson, others):

Last year's results are also posted.
There is a Web site; I'll hunt around, but it's probably fatsalmon.org. No information is posted as yet on signmeup.com.
And as I recall, there is a shorter, 1-mile swim, called Chum Salmon - to distinguish it from a Fat Salmon!
:)
The site is fatsalmonswim.org
It doesn't have current year information yet, but it's expected to be up soon.
This year's swim is probably going to be held the weekend of July 18th.
What's the water temperature like? I'm not a wetsuit swimmer but Fat Salmon would be the week before I'm doing a 10-mile swim in Vermont and I don't want to do anything foolish. (Of course, I just said that after saying I'm doing a 10-miler so who knows was constitutes foolish for me...)
And the general water quality? It looks like a great day from the few photos I've managed to see but I always love to hear from someone who's done it.
Thanks again.
It's a fun race. I've done it several years now. The long race is probably a hair over 5K, I don't think it's 3.75 miles. Last year's times were a little slow due to a headwind.
Another event to consider is the Cascade Lakes Swim Series hosted by COMA in Bend, OR. I've never done it, but looks like it would be a great event. It's a series of OW swims over the weekend of 7/31-8/2.

Low 70s is typical for the water temp. It's a little chilly, but I've never been tempted to wear a wetsuit--OK actually I don't own one :)
Water quality is fine. Not great visibility, but the water tastes fine. I remember someone telling me one year salmon season corresponded to the race so there were lots of boats on the lake and, consequently, they could smell/taste gas fumes at the start. This hasn't happened the years I've done it.

That is a sweet looking series. That 5K on Sunday would be a killer after Fri and Sat.
The Cascade Lake series is fantastic. Beautiful location with perfectly clear, clean water & the same for the air. It's put on by a fun group also & has a view of a snow topped mountain while you swim!
