anyone do the Fat Salmon swim last year?

I feel like I am putting myself at risk for many smart aleck comments by even posting that thread title.... I'm wondering if anyone did this Seattle race last year and what you thought. We're thinking it could be a good excuse for our family to visit the NW again, after living there for many years, and wanted to see what the swim was like. Anyone have any experience? Thanks.

  • Low 70s is typical for the water temp. It's a little chilly, but I've never been tempted to wear a wetsuit--OK actually I don't own one :) Water quality is fine. Not great visibility, but the water tastes fine. I remember someone telling me one year salmon season corresponded to the race so there were lots of boats on the lake and, consequently, they could smell/taste gas fumes at the start. This hasn't happened the years I've done it.
