She is a diabetic. I knew her father he swam in a couple of marathon races. He was from my hometown Hamilton Ontario.
There are terrible rip tides and is probably one of the most difficult of swims. Her swim is actually 32 k and she intends to touch three provinces in her swim.
I just checked the water temp where I usually OW swim, 94.1 degrees perfect for me. I wouldn't last 5 secs in the 50 degree water she's swimming let alone go 9 miles.
She is going to touch land at Cape Torpentine and then continue on another 20 or so k to the shore of Nova Scotia. The first 9 miles of the crossing is loaded with Rip Tides and big purple Jelly Fish. I swam the 9 mile swim from Cape Torpentine to Borden in 1964 it was 9miles, 9 hours. Terrible tides.

I don't think she is going to Halifax! That would be a little more than 20km!

If you zoom out on the GPS tracker two levels you will see Cap Pele on the map, which is where I live, with the right weather you can see the bridge from the sandbars in front of the house!
Lindsay you are right, it looks like she just wants to get to any place she can land in Nova Scotia.
Halifax is impossible I don't know the geography well on the east coast.
The map is a little misleading on the provincial boundary, she has touched New Brunswick, she has to get across the bay to touch land in Nova Scotia. It looks like she is going to swim along the shoreline for a while before crossing.
